I was just browsing internet in search of some cool mods to do to my FX and stumbled upon this: Mishimoto Oil Cooler. I know, this is most likely done to FI applications, but I was wondering if anyone has done this to non-FI FX and what benefits (if any) could there be to doing such a mod?

It's ideal if you track your car but for day to day driving it really isn't necessary. For example the 370Z has an overheating issue and benefits from an oil cooler.

If you're not boosted, it's pretty pointless. Especially if you don't plan on tracking your car (not just autocross, road course). For daily driving, it won't do anything. I have an Active Autowerks oil cooler on my 335 and that car runs really hot stock (most come factory w/ oil cooler). But it's twin turbo and really tight packaging. If you go turbo, I'd do it since the oil gets really hot running through the turbos. On a previous car, I built a custom turbo set up and once I added an oil cooler, I noticed the oil temps dropped and were more stable but that's because the oil goes through the turbos.

im thinking of purchasing on of these but with the upgraded bypass oil cooler thing. Loading the fx up for long trips/towing kinda scare me.

I would worry more about the transmission cooler than the oil cooler. At some point, the oil cooler will make a difference if you're towing that much, but the transmission cooler will matter way before that. Even a 20 degree rise in transmission fluid temp will greatly decrease the life of your transmission.

Does your car run hot? Oil temp and coolant temp are closely related.

yea the tranny cooler is my next mod. any suggestions on btu size? thinking of 18k-24k

I would get the biggest one you can. If you route it through the OEM cooler that goes through the bottom of your radiator, you can't overcool it. On my old car, I ran a Hayden that was rated for trucks/rv's up to 24,000lbs. And that car was 1000lbs less than an FX.

I've decided to try a new project. I'm going to see if I can fit oil and tranny coolers behind the grill. I'm going to run matching cores and AN lines to try and make it pretty. It looks like I have enough room, just have to build a simple bracket to hold them up.
