Misfiring cylinder - looking at replacing Ignition coils

Hello guys!

I'm terribly sorry for not being that active on the forums as I used to. I was busy with a lot of things between work and getting a kid set up in college.

All these years, I still kept my old and trusty '07 FX35 with 140k+ miles on the odo as my daily driver. She has already shown her age and recently I tackled the valve cover replacement + valve cover gasket change and also changed all the plugs with NGK Platinum double lasers. I was hoping my ignition coils are still fine but after the valve cover swap, I am still getting random misfires.

I am looking at NGK coil packs and found some good pricing with 10% discount from this site: 6 pcs NGK Ignition Coil for 2003-2008 Infiniti FX35 3.5L V6

Are NGK coils good? I know they make good spark plugs, not sure about the coil packs though. If not, is there a better brand that is good but not necessarily break the bank?

Gentlemen,

On this note,

2008 FX35
I just had a coil replaced this week which fixed my misfirings that I've been having for a while.

Now another issue came up!

The throttle/acceleration response is off/delayed. The pedal is unpredictable and jerks the engine whichever way it likes.

I noticed this as soon as I started driving away from the mechanic, came back immediately and let him try it. His response - throttle sensor lost it's settings or smth like that while they were changing the coil.
"-What is the FIX?
-Just keep driving and it will relearn!".
OK so I gave it a week to see if anything changes. It's been over a week since - same annoying and frankly discomforting (almost dangerous) car behaviour.

Started watching Youtube videos. Seems like the sensor must either be: RESET or REPLACED

I am sure this is a known thing for many of you.

So do I get new one/ reset it or it will eventually relearn (this does not seem to be happening so far) ?

Thanks in advance!

If the "throttle/acceleration response is off/delayed" was not an issue prior to the tech replacing coils, then the tech is responsible and the FX should be brought back to the tech BUT prior to the tech fixing his fuck-up, ask him to please not fuck anything else up in the process.

I always have trouble with the timing when doing the "pedal dance" that I have to do it multiple times till I get it down to work. I came up with an easier guide where you just have to run your cell phone stop watch continuously in one fluid motion.

Hope below helps. I am able to do the reset spot on every single time with below guide I created.

I. ECU RESET (shortcut)

Turn ON Acc + 3 sec

5 (fast) full hard pedal pumps

15 sec hard pedal press (kept pressed till CEL blinks)

25 sec release pedal (while CEL is still blinking)

35 sec hard pedal press (kept pressed)

45 sec release pedal (CEL continues to blink)

Turn OFF

Start car blinking CEL goes away

II. Accelerator Pedal Release Position Learning

ON Acc + 2 sec

turn OFF at 12 sec

14 sec turn ON

16 sec turn OFF

III. Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning

Run Engine to normal Operating Temperature

Turn OFF + 10 sec

ON (start timer) for 3 sec

5 hard pedal pumps (within 8 sec)

15 sec hard pedal press (kept pressed till CEL blinks)

When blinking CEL turns solid, release pedal

Immediately start engine

Rev 2 to 3 times till RPM settles on desired level

Agree!

Agreed, tech should fix as they might have forgot to reinstall something during the coil replacement. Not sure what since you don't really have to unplug any harnesses to get to any of the coils.

Since it's free, try resetting the ECU or other procedures from the following write-up.

ECU Reset - Accelerator / Throttle / Idle Learning - Airbag Reset

Gonna have to try this!

Big thank you, man! Will have to play with it!

What brand of ignition coil did you use?
I am afraid I do not know... Invoice just says COIL and I did not ask what exactly they were putting. I see him again I will ask for you!

And by the way here is his input on what needs to be done. Gave me these instructions over the phone today:

1. ACC ON. Engine not running.
2. Step on gas. Hold 10 sec. Release.
3. Start the car.
This is supposed to put sensor in calibration mode.

Sound familiar or something made up or applies to other cars? He works mostly on European brands.
