Problem solved:
Took it back to the mechanic and spent $350 including a new set of plenum gaskets. They were puzzled as well and eventually figured out it was the plugs for coils 2 and 6 were switched. Ugh fml... I didn't overlook this but actually switched 4/6 before to ensure correct function. Also read everywhere and checked wiring diagrams to see if there was an easy way to tell which plug to which coil (all the markings faded off). Anyway never heard of 2/6 being switched...also was directed to be worried about 2 and 5 so this was a bit of a head fuck. Just glad it’s done and hope it helps someone else down the road. Car runs great now and for a $1700 car plus $900 including all the parts and labor I’ve got a good car.
Mahalo for all the help along the way to this that reached out!
