Hi.

My car fx35 03 has started misfire since last month, it occurs after i took my car to dealer to replace valve cover and the spark plug. My car had oil leak before.
There is no SES light on, but i get misfire randomly at idle.
Dealer quotes me over $1500 to replace 6 ignition coils.

Anyone has any experiences about this and is it hard if i try to replace this by myself?

Appreciate your help.

Not hard if you are handy. If there is no CEL that came on it might be something else. Usually it'll throw a code and a cheap scanner can be purchased for under $100. What I do locate the bank that is throwing the code and swap it with a bank that didn't throw a code. If the new bank throws a code then you know that coil is bad. If it continues to be the previous bank then it could be a faulty plug or wiring. Doesn't help your situation but just saying...

Yep, I would diagnose it the way WiND had mentioned above. The dealer is being lazy and replace all 6 at once. If no SES light, it doesn't sounds like misfire to me. Try different brand of gas if you been consistently using one brand?

Just got car back from dealer and try to troubleshoot it as Wind mentioned.
La_ fx35, would you think gas type can cause this?
I was using premium back then, and switched to regular when gas price was high.
By the time i got the misfire, i was using plus since i though i should stick with it instead of changing from premium to regular.
i also try diffrent brand of gas, still got misfire.

so far, what i have done:
+ changed valve cover( to fix oil leak), spark plug and cam shaft sensor

WInd, i switched to premium right away after i suspect it might be gas type, but misfire still there.
Any suggestion should i continue to look for coils or maybe fuel injection?

if its after they remove and replace your valve cover and plug. it could be something they did not connect back properly. i did my valve cover last week at home and their is a lot of things you have to move to get to the valve cover. and that price they are giving you is just ridiculous. i would not be surprise if they did something just to get you coming back to them so they can get your money. if i was you i would just get a scanner and see which one of the cylinder is misfiring. they swap the coil and see if the misfire move with the coil.
