Melted coils experience

Had an experience on Friday with my 2007 FX35 that seems to have happened to other folks. Car started driving weird, rattled, check engine light came on followed by weird smell and smoke. Tow truck to my infiniti dealership, $4,800 estimate for melted coils and cats.

I was at the dealership a day before for standard oil service and multi point inspection. Is it just a coincidence this happened to me the following day?

That's a ridiculous quote. Go aftermarket and take your car to a good local shop.

That's good to know, thanks for the tip. They also said the CEM could be damaged too, according to them this is "the worst thing that could have happened."

It is weird because my car was with them the previous morning. I wonder if a screw up on their part caused the shortage, or if they could have warned me about it.

A standard oil change and inspection wouldn't melt your coils or cat.

Replace the single bad coil @$100 and drive on. Maybe opt to do the spark plugs as well.
