Maybe 2nd generation designers knew what they were doing

I still get compliments and it's a 10 year old car (yes, I said "10" because even though it's an 03' it came out in 02')

I know this is a bit late but you might find my thinking of interest. I started out buying another Porsche. In this case I was looking at a fairly new Cayenne S [I am sick of depreciation]. After looking a while and almost closing a deal on a well optioned 2011 I decided to reconsider and ended up close to buying an extremely low mile FX50. My wife took one look at it and her comparison of the frontal appearance to a certain fish that you wouldn't eat almost persuaded me back to a 958S. Then I remembered the early FX and their clean lines. I looked at a gray FX45 but it had not been well kept. Since my wife loves almost anything silver we went to look at a silver one.. just to get it over with. I ended up loving it and so did she. Not a perfect vehicle, but I really like it and enjoy many things about it. I am afraid to let my wife drive it as I suspect she will try to steal it away.

My only "real" complaint is that no one here seems to have swapped an FX50 engine/trans in one of these early ones. I think that would be dreamy. There is nothing like a little... excess. Nice vehicle. Nice site.

Not sure what it was with Infiniti marketing but I hadn't considered checking it out before I got my FX. I was going to get a TL but the wife thought we needed an SUV, So I checked out the MDX, Q5, XC60 etc. then at the Volvo dealer they had a used FX. I wasn't sold on the XC60, felt like it was struggling, then we went to check out the used FX, the Exhaust note sold me on the FX. :)

Still like the Gen1 over Gen2, If they do make an IPL though...

Great story and from what I hear many of FX owners came about to own one in a similar way. Just like you Infiniti wasn't on my list, being a long time BMer guy I was aiming at X5 or X6. Then a friend at work showed me his Lexus RX, I liked the lines but I hated the interior. I looked at MDX but was bored with it, went back to look at BMW and almost got a GLK, and then due to some weird error in my car search I was pointed at a copper FX and I knew this was it. However it wasn't in my town so a hunt for the exact color combo started. Found one, it wasn't the cleanest one but I like a little challenge to restore and fix. Never looked back again:)

I never look that much at the 1st gen, then when the 2nd gen cam out i was all over it i love my 09 twilight get many compliments and question about it,what color is it gray or green i tell them its whatever you see.

Everyone will not agree on which generation looks best. This will go on forever and end in a stalemate. I know a few people at work who like how my gen. FX45 look over the new style, but love the newer FX's interior better. They think the new one looks like a whale shark from the front, and I agree. I know a guy at work who thinks my interior look better and that the new interior looks a little cheap with the fake shiny wood trim and plastic control center in the dash, he drives a Mercedes. Personally, i like the new interior much better than I like mine. The reason why I know this is because a few people loved my FX when I first bought it and was shocked when I said that I wanted the new one, and talked me out of it due to pointing out the fact about the whale shark looking front end and gill/vents on the side. My friend with the Mercedes E350 chimed in about how he did not like the cheap looking shiny wood interior and dash when he checked one out at the Infiniti dealership, but he has a Mercedes so I understand why he thinks that. So everyone will have an opinion and know people who will have an opinion. They both look good and have their strengths as well as shortcomings. There is no clear winner. Both are bad ass. P.S. here is why I decided to wait for the 2013 style changes.

My coworkers showed me this picture at work, and I could not argue the fact that the 2nd gen. does looks like a whale shark from the front! I will get a third generation FX or QX, which I hear that it will be called soon.
