Maybe 2nd generation designers knew what they were doing

We all know that the jury is still out for many of you when it comes to the exterior of the 1st gen vs. 2nd gen. In spite of our nitpicking maybe the focus groups and designers were right afterall. I have had my 2012 Malbec black 35 for less than two months and in that short period of time I have recieved more compliments on the 2012 than I ever got with my Obsidian black 2005 FX. On top of that I notice many more people silently checking it out.

Even before I moved to the new version I always thought the 2nd gen's exterior represented a nice upgrade and never quite understood the resistence, but I can appreciate the grilll on the 2009-2011 may have turned some people off on the design.

stock to stock comparison your right, 1stgen wins modified vs stock 2nd g

I agree with you about turning heads and the questions. I get so many looks daily and people always asking questions. I was at the mall the other day and this guy flagged me down cause he said he loved the styling of the 2nd gen FX and he asked to see the interior. He said he has never seen inside an Infiniti in person and wanted to see what the hype was all about because he told me his friends always brag about these cars lol. He said eventually he was going to trade in his ML350 Mercedes for the FX.

Although I have to disagree about the 2012 grille. I was at the dealer not too long ago in sales and parked my 09 next to a 2012 because I just recently got hit and was deciding on whether to upgrade to the new style grille and bumper since its a direct fit. I'm glad I didn't go with the new grille and bumper because honestly it doesn't look too good in person. The 2009-2011 grille looks more aggressive IMO and alot cleaner looking. The way the new grille is rounded and sticks out more has taken away from the lines of the FX. It looks more "bubbly" looking and too rounded now. Looks good in pictures but not too great in person. I think they should of made the grille smaller thats the issue. Then again it's just my opinion. I'm sure there are people who like the 2012 front.

agree with Tim & others. much cleaner lines. 2003 & still doesnt look dated & a timeless classic.
I would say the designers knew what they were doing on Gen 1. but I'm biased

By the way 1st gen and 2nd gen FX are both great vehicles. I like the exhaust of the 1st gen it was one thing I was disappointed with the 2nd gen. But back in 2010 when I first bought it I was told they quieted down the exhaust on the 2nd gen to open up to a bigger variety of customers. Not everyone likes loud exhausts especially on a luxury car. Some people buying this won't even care that's why. People who want the loud exhaust (me) are the enthusiasts that like those kinds of things.

That's why the G37 coupe stock exhaust is loud as hell because people buying coupes like it very sporty. The G37 sedan is quiet because it's more of a family sedan.

Personally, I'd have to give the first gen exterior design a slight advantage. I loved the look from the first time I saw one while it's taken a few months of owning the 2nd gen for it to grow on me. I used to think the perfect FX would be the exterior of my 08 with the 2nd gen interior. But after putting my new wheels on, I wouldn't trade my 2012 for anything!:smile-big:

This is just like 350z owners hated the 370z when it came out and G35 owners hated the G37 when it came out. It's always going to be like this.

Watch 2nd gen owners will hate on the 3rd gen FX when it comes out hehe:tongue:

Obviously there is no right or wrong preference, that is why I decided to share other people's reactions to the two generations. Here is another interesting anecdote that shocked me. When I first got my 05 my daughter never said a word, so I always assumed she didn't like the FX, when she saw the new one she said she wanted one.

1st Gen is a classic...hands down. Many of my friends see mine and they think it looks better than any SUV out there.
If taken care of and modified properly it will still look good for years to come....AND let's not forget, the 1st Gen started
the whole crossover revolution....

I love both gens, they both are very unique looking

Maybe taste is entirely subjective.
Maybe this thread is sillier than a Civic with 10 exhaust tips. :what:
Maybe, just maybe...

1st Gen ftw!!! :D

Don't get me wrong the 1st gen is awesome and so is the second.

I've always wished that there were lot more FX's owners out there, the 2nd gen has confirmed for me that a lot of people wish they had an FX.

I think both are awesome but I can tell you that when I drive by a 2nd genFX they always turn to check my FX out. I have seen them at red lights inch closer and closer to look at it. I think both have their pros and cons. I prefer the front of the 1st gen but I also love the rear of the 2nd Gen. Sometimes the 2nd gen looks smaller and to be is just an oversized EX but tats just my opinion.

Go to the right places and you'll see how many people share our opinion on the fx! Both first and second gens
