Manual shifting: slow gear changes

Anyone with the 7-speed notice if you try to manually shift near the 6000+ rpm range while flooring it, the transmission takes up to one second to actually shift? This has been rather annoying since mine has a habit of eventually hitting the rev limiter, going into some rev-safe mode for two seconds while I experience no power, then back on power.

I have had to hit the upshift lever about 1000rpm earlier (by eye) to avoid this. Very counter intuitive, I end up leaving it in DS mode to avoid the hassle. It is more apparent in lower gears since the engine revs much quicker.

Do these second gens have an upgraded shift kit by any chance? Anyone else experience this?

Mine doesn't really do do that...but I've experienced it.... try and not get so close to the rev limiter when you do shift yourself.

Also you cant try resetting the ECU then going through the gears a few times, drive aggressively. That will clean up the shifts by paddle/manually.you may see that shifting a bit earlier than redline will actually give you a faster shift

However, keep in mind this is no exotic super car dual clutch paddle shifting transmission, nor is it the same as the GTR. It's just normal tiptronic with paddle shifters attached to it also...the shifts aren't the quickest.

I only drive it with the paddle shifters - rarely in DS because I hate the 7 gear trans.

Sometimes if you shift where the next gear would be under too much load it will stall you for a second or two until it's "safe" to go into that gear - and yes the rev-limiter pause is annoying but you've got to simply learn where it is. I moved mine back 500rpm for a little extra give but there's not really a point in shifting that late. My car runs faster in the 1/4 and 1/8th when in DS shifting at the "normal" shift points compared to when I try and get an extra 500rpm and shift myself. Just the way the transmission is designed. I also had the tq delivery adjusted as part of the UpRev tune, though so that may be part of it.

as for kits, transgo made one for the first gen but I'm not sure about 2nd gen. I don't think the price is worth the hassle.

Try the ECU reset and see what happens. Also you may see that shifting a bit earlier than redline will actually give you a faster shift and continue the power delivery better than revving the gear out all the way each time, and waiting for it to drop back and rev back up.

A shift kit won't help with that problem. It will shift quicker, but the shift still has to be initiated by the TCM after you select the gear. The delay is between the paddle and the TCM. I had a Stillen modded VB on my first gen for a while and it made the actual shift quicker, but did nothing about that "hang" at high rpm's when manually selecting gears.

Got it, thanks for the response. I did have better success by shifting earlier as suggested.

Agreed on this not being a "GTR", but I do plan on taking it to the road coarse and need to be confident I can row up and down the gears on command.

As for resetting the ECU, in general, they tend to learn your habits after driving for some period of time. Have you noticed a night and day difference in performance and/or shifting by resetting? In past vehicles, resetting never did much.
