I have that issue also it's pretty annoying and I rarely downshift now since I hate hearing that clunking sound when going from 3rd into 2nd. What I believe might be causing this may be the transmission motor mount going bad.
I agree, it ruins the fun of using the manumatic. I'd love to figure out what causes it and remedy the situation. I've noticed it seems like it happens more often if I'm at low rpm when I make the shift from 3rd to 2nd.
1 1/2 years later...Downshifting 3rd to 2nd is worse w/shift kit. Never had issues prior to kit. 2nd to 1st is even worse. Always drive in mm & downshift frequently. I've learned to have my foot on the accelerator, at least slightly when downshifting. Just a nuance & easy to get used to. All downshifts are smooth now. I think shifting in mm is more aggressive w/less tc slippage & is even more pronounced w/shift kit.
