M35x Exhaust

I'm driving an Infiniti M35X. I've already installed an injen high flow air intake. I now would like to move on to the exhaust system and install some type of cat back unit. Here is my problem. I need to try to install a system the is pretty much "stock" quiet around town and on the highway. But, I would like it to sound more authoritative when I add throttle input. If I don't get this right my wife is going to skin me! I just don't want to be driving around town like some of these kids in their Honda Civics and have my car sounding like a fart on steroids. Would a Borla, Megan, Stillen or any other high flow exhaust meet these requirements or am I asking too much? I want the additional performance, just not a lot of noise at idle and lower RPM's. I have megan exhaust, midpipe back no CAI, it was hardly noticeable on nice long road trip from MD to florida this summer. My next plan is to add a Y pipe undecided on which just yet HR/ or some other manufacture and stillen noncatted test pipes.

Thanks so much, mrluv! Do you feel any difference in performance? It's good to hear that the Megan exhaust is "liveable" on a long trip. I'm leaning toward the Megan too. In my case, price is a factor. I think I'll do a Y-pipe too. Have you looked on Amazon and eBay? There are some on those sites that start around $150.00. Thanks again for the info!

I was looking on Stillens web site and there was a video there from something like Andy's Auto Shop where they were installing a few High Flo exhaust. After After the installations they demonstrated the differs sounds. That might help you a little.

+2 on the Megan Racing exhaust system, it's the best bang for the buck. It's also the only exhaust that comes fully polished with dual tips at a price of about $775 shipped to your door.

The problem is that it's so popular that it's always on back-order. New order should be coming in soon.

Do you feel the Megan exhaust is fairly quiet in around town driving and sound more aggressive with added throttle input? The wheels on your '06 M45 are really sharp!!!!

The sound and power will come from replacing the mid-pipe, changing just the muffler will only add a little to sound with almost no added power.

The Megan racing full exhuast is only loud when started full cold or hitting the gas pedal hard. When the car gets to temp it will sound like oem at idle.

2nd would be to replace the y-pipe for alittle more sound and extra power

3rd would be test pipe to replace oem cats.

you can find some vids on youtube but it best if you find someone near you so that you can hear the true sound.

Thanks! That was such a help. I think I'll go with the Megan Racing exhaust and skip the CAT replacement. I like how that sounds and it seems like you have more control with the sound. What do you suggest for a Y-pipe? I saw some on eBay. What would really work and would the Y-pipe and the Megan system all fit together and hook up to the stock CAT's? I sure would appreciate your recommendation. Thank you.

Have you looked at these posts recently? There are a couple of videos that will give you some examples of what systems make what sounds. Both volume and tone. The loudest seems to be a full CAT replacement with a new Y-pipe on back.

Would this work on my '07 M35X? M2 PERFORMANCE Y-PIPE EXHAUST INFINITI G37 08-10 VQ37HR. I found this on eBay for $180.

I wish I can help more but I have an M45 and I know that X's have little differences here & there. It's best to make sure what you want & what will fit 100% before ordering any parts.

I have the MXP SP Exhaust but the Megan was my first choice before I got lucky and got this one for a huge discount. There is a group buy trying to get setup on NICO for this but I'm the only one that has this exhaust at the moment.

Well, it is done. After weeks of trying to get a date setup with Mark at RavSpec (GREAT guy and his mechanic/tech guy is great too - definitely recommend RavSpec) to get the MXP SP exhaust installed on the car, it has happened. Here are my impressions:


Fitment was dead on. The only thing they had to do was extend the bolts for the front flange (connects to the Y-Pipe) as the flange is too thick for the stock bolts. Definitely louder than stock but only at WOT. At cruising speeds or idling, it's hardly louder. In other words, PERFECT. I'm the guy who doesn't want anything obnoxious and I don't want to be heard a block down the road at idle...and this is perfect. Very happy.


The exhaust was tested for 5-6 months before they installed it, so it isn't brand new but it was very clean and they cleaned it up a bit more for me. For the price I got it for, more than happy.
