hi all

I just picked up an 09 fx50 and have noticed there is a groaning sound when I very lightly touch the gas pedal from about 500-1k rpm. The car sounds fine at idle and once you get over 1k the groan goes away. At first I thought it was HVAC related but today it was still making the sound even with the HVAC system off.

it sounds like it is coming from around the firewall area but i cant pinpoint it.

any thoughts or ideas.

Posting a video might help pinpoint your problem so others can hear what your referring to.

Heatshield rusting up on exhaust is probably rattling up or small exhaust leak wich usually faints away at higher rpms.

Themechanic, is that a typical issue with the fx50? neither occurred to me but I like them better than engine or motor mount issues.

Thanks!

Here is a video. I hope you can hear it. its only when I slightly apply the gas and once past 1k it goes away. You can't hear it at idle...

Does the car vibrate any difference when the sound present? May want to pop the hook and have someone accelerate while to you hear and feel if the engine vibrate differently. Or while the sound is happening, listen for it if it coming from under the car. Not sure what it is.

not sure what it is. It's diffenetly coming from the driver side rear of the engine bay. On the passenger side you cant hear it with the hood open. The engine does not feel rough when its making the noise.

just did a 200 mile trip from Chicago to Peoria and the car ran perfect and the power feels great.

not sure what it is. May have to take a trip to the dealer...

had it at the dealer for a brake fluid flush and they said it may be the fuel injection system As it can get noisy. They did not seem to think it was a big deal...

hopefully that is the case

Similar thing on mine from how you're describing it. It just does that. Can be anything from a resonance of the exhaust note vibrating the metal ever so slightly to the motor itself to the fuel injectors. Dealer gave it the OK --- tough for me to really tell with my exhaust now though ;)

My 50 made the same exact noise, its the serpentine belt tensioner. I had a friend hold the rpms at about 1500 then i jammed a large pry bar into the tensioner pulling down on it and the noise stopped. Change your belt tensioner.
