looks like infiniti-mercedes affair may be over

Looks like a very bad financial move for nissan- they lose money on the qx30 plant in england which was retooled to mercedes specs, then they lose money on the joint mexican plant mentioned in the article. Plus this news can't help qx30 sales- so its a lose lose lose. Infiniti is making some huge blunders STARTING with the idiotic name change- who gives up iconic names like FX G M after spending years building the brand around them? The future looks bleak.
 
^ maybe that's the reason I see less and less of them on the road. I mean I still see g35s and g37s, FXs. Anything with a Q in front of it is border line non-excitant.
 
Infiniti cars are always marketed as performance vehicles. For some reason, people higher up in the company lost that memo. There were many great things they introduced on the earlier models that brand loyal customers appreciated and really like. Yet for some strange reasons, Infiniti dropped and abandoned them in their newer models. Among others the Akebono BBK seems to have disappeared in many of their supposedly "top line models". Paddle shifters are not provided anymore even on the QX70LE. Wheel styling is all over the place and design looks busier IMO.

Sure they introduced new design concept such as nicer headlights and LED accents among others but it seems that for every new good feature they introduce in the newer models they also take back a couple of already great features or amenity. The buttons and controls of the QX70 has hardly change at all since the 1st gen. I saw a Nissan Roque with nicer two tone brown and charcoal leather seats at the dealership today. Why some lower priced Nissan has these features? smh.
 
The split with mercedes is probably a good thing- and while they're at it I say bring back the old names and the Infiniti clock in all models.

And -whatever happened to the dash display that tilts with the steering wheel?
And- Where did the beautiful exhaust note go? Come on Infiniti- get it right.

Nashville, TN. Nissan's North American HQ are here, as well as one of their manufacturing plants. I'm pretty sure they make the QX60 there. With all the employees in this area, and a booming local economy, Infinitis (and Nissans in general) are pretty prevalent.

All Infiniti owners must be in Nashville then :P
The fact remains is that I see less and less Infinitis on the road, people are opting out for Europeans more and more in my area.
 
I know we also use Benz transmissions. But otherwise I think all moves are calculated and Infiniti hopefully has something else in mind , like being self reliant

Q's and QX's are very prevalent in San Diego. Tons of them everywhere.
 
Dealer gave a a QX30 loaner last week. Felt like my FX 35 had been in the dryer too long. The engine was sluggish unless you really stepped into it the she went pretty good. Would never consider buying one , didn't like it.
 
Ever since they dumped the FM platform for the MB chassis, I've stopped looking at INFINITI cars... The original FM platform was nearly perfect 50/50 weight distribution front to back. The MB chassis they're using for the Q50 is roughly 60/40. Only the SPORT model I've driven was able to make up for the crappy weight distribution. Then I took a Q50 AWD home as a loaner, and I was utterly disappointed by it's driving characteristics. MB makes nice LUXURY cars, but they don't make performance vehicles. Even their AMG versions are always described as sledgehammers compared to BMW M cars and AUDI RS cars. I'm glad INFINITI is cutting ties...
 
I saw the Mercedes version of this vehicle. The sheet metal looks pretty good but the interior is plain and bland. Bu bye...... Mercedes
 
To me, the QX30 looks better than the GLA. MB has a more aggressive front but the rear is weird. I thought about getting the AMG version as it would make a cool city car. If the QX30 had more power and was more performance oriented, I could consider it. There are more and more of them around here but still not many.

I'm pretty sure the Q50 is still using the FM platform, as it was basically a G37 with a new shell when it first came out, in addition to the not so well received first generation steer-by-wire.

The QX30 on the other hand is a MB platform and everything, minus the Infiniti dressings.
 
Saw. Nissan Mirano today, looks like a QX30 from the side, a Mercedes from the back and a Nissan from the front. Identity Crisis

The Q50 was the first INFINITI to be built on a shared MB platform. Even with the WORST engineering, you couldn't turn a perfect 50/50 weight distribution to 60/40... And that was the reason why the Coupe was kept as the old body style for another year while they were putting the finishing touches on putting together the Q60 on the MB platform... The Q50 and Q60 share nothing in common with any MB other than the chassis... And if you read any reviews on them, they're considered more of a "touring" sedan than a "sports sedan" now... That's what an MB chassis will do for you...
