Looking to learn

My name is Kevin, and I live in the suburbs of Chicago. I currently do not own an Infiniti, but I am in the VQ family with my 350Z. I have been really lucky to connect with a great group of local enthusiasts for Z's and G's in the area, so, I guess I have high expectations for what a car community should be.

I'm debating on if I want to keep my modded toy Z with my DD Subie or step into something that I can mod and drive daily. I've seen several modded FX's in the area, and they all look very well done, which is why I am considering the move.

I'm just going to scope out the boards and do my homework, and hopefully learn some things that will push me to make a decision come the spring--one way or the other. I look forward to getting to know some of you---and if you are from the Chicago area, say hi.

Welcome to the Scene! Many prior G and Z owners have made the switch and I have not heard one regret!

Good to hear. Not that I should be thinking this far in advance, but are 20's the accepted wheel size to upgrade into with an FX? I only ask because I'm running 19's on my Z and debating if I should keep them and use them on the FX, if I pick one up....or just sell the 19's I have.

FX's come in 18's for non-sport and 20's for the sport package. But many end up upgrading to 22's ans lower springs with eibach's or H&R's. Have a look in the wheel/suspension section.

Hey Kevin, welcome to the forum. As a daily driver the FX does it all pretty well. I sold two vehicles and purchased my ride, couldn't be happier with my decision.

My guess is that I'll just run my nice rims and tires during the spring, summer, and early fall and then when the crappy weather comes---switch out to stock rims and winter tires. I know a lot of G guys do that, just have to make sure my exhaust doesn't get blasted! Maybe I'll swap that out too...which cars did you trade in, Logan?

Hey, welcome to the scene. Yeah, 20's or 22's is the way to go with the FX, but majority have 22's

I Had a Toyota FJ80Landcruiser and a Lexus GS400. Both were heavily modded for their specific function and were enjoyable but in the city I didn't need two cars. The four wheel deal I used it for jumping curbs and MAYBE twice a year for an impromptu outdoor run. The car was a blast and was fast as hell after I finished with it, but inherently not built to corner (the FX kicked its ass out of the box) I sold the Cruiser first then realized I couldn't haul ANYTHING in the Lexus (I own a couple of apartment buildings and I need to haul stuff now and then) really thought that out well...... SO I sold the Lexus and bought the FX. Truly the best of all worlds-Fast enough, I can haul things occasionally, its comfortable nights out, its still unique. Really dig the car, just can't stop spending money on it.......

Excellent....glad we have some Simpsons fans on here. I actually have a Mr. Sparkle shirt and tons of people always ask what is wrong with Homer's face. Nice work, fish bulb.

As for the FX, I'd like to go with an '06 to '07...once I sell the Z and pay off all the debt on the mods from it! I'd really like to find someone selling something already modded...as much fun as it was taking the stock Z to something no one else had....I'd save a ton by getting something with rims and springs already. I'd also like to find something that hasn't been in the snow before, so, if you live in Cali, Arizona, Nevada, etc....let me know if you see something good. "Join me or die!!"

Definitely see what you can take from your Z to the FX. There's quite a bit that fits both since we run the same powerplant and drivetrain. I just bought a Blitz Throttle controller off a local Z owner. He commented how much easier stuff is to install on the FX because of all our space.

welcome mrsparkles!

hopefully the fx works out for you. nice avator btw, can we have some more pics

I posted some of my pictures in the OT picture thread, but I can get together some of my Z pictures later. No one seems to want the car as a whole...but damn, people are vultures for individual parts!

lots of us have G's and Z's forum account.. since you are selling your Z there are alots of parts that can be donated to your on coming FX.. welcome to IS enjoy!
