Looking to buy my first FX

Hi guys, I been lurking in this forum for some times now without contributing much. I am hoping to become part of the scene family soon. here is what I came cross with.

a 2003 fx35 rwd, 110k miles, with sport package. No navi. very good condition he said. The guy is asking for $18k. the KBB value is around 12k for good condition. He won't lower the price by much due to the condition of the car.

another 2003 Fx45 with 30k miles fully loaded that I found in autotrader. the asking price is around 20k. it been there for quite some times and seems like hes having trouble selling it or whatever it may be. Could it be the car has serious mechanical problem? I really want to check this car out but its 500 miles away from me. i dont wanna go all the way down there to find out something wrong with the car.

sorry for the long post. I hope the pros here can chime in and give me some insight. if the fx35 owner willing to lower the price to what the kbb value is, i would get the fx35 since it fits my budget better. Thanks:.smile:

FX35 is way too expensive for what it is. You can find a much better deal. The guy is smoking crack or something asking for $18k o_O

I think dealerships have a lot of FXs these days and with a lot lower mileage... You should check with them.

I totally agree with others. Shop around more, there should be plenty. 2003 w/ 110k miles for $18k just doesn't sound right, no matter how well he maintained it. For $18k you should be around 2005 / 75k miles.

I am like you and looking to purchase and FX35 (paper work is actually being processed for completion as I type). The FX35 I found is a 2005 AWD, Touring pkg...meaning it's fully loaded. It has 72k miles on it and we agreed on $18,200 out the door. I thought that was a decent enough deal so we are taking it.

With that said, the FX's you are looking at, don't sound like a good deal at all.

thanks guys. let see if i can convince him to sell it to me at kbb value.
what you guys think about the 45??

use KBB to your advantage. It's a buyer's market out there, so you have the room to negotiate the options and price you want. Regardless, both your options are priced too high. I'd offer $10k cash for the '03 and let him sit on it. He won't get anything close to his asking price and a cash offer will stand strong if you have it.

is the 45 ad in san diego? if so, it looks clean and priced ok since it is the lowest miles within 500 miles here. id strongly consider craigslist based on more competitive pricing and my own experience (last 4 car deals). there are 2 45s in your area for about $17K.

@yoogene : hahah yeah I was thinking about offering him 11k. lets see how it goes.

@mtbfx: yeah thats the one. DG with brick. really like the combo. you think he will go down more on the price?? like 17k

his asking is 21, so i doubt he'll go that low. my opinion on the high mileage 35, skip purely due to miles. i think you can find other 35's in your area at around 17. good luck and do not rush.

I got a 2004 FX45 with Tech package and 20" oems black on black with 72000 miles clean title for under $16k at the auction, shop around. Ask to be taken to a dealer auction. You'll save a lot.

are those dealer auctions open to the public? Or do you have to have a friend who knows some people who knows some people to get you in?

whats wrong with high mileage fx?? isnt that if the vehicle is well maintained, it wont give you problems?? I have seen a few members here with well over 100k miles on their fx. I wouldn't mind getting that fx35 if the owner willing to go with KBB(11k) lol... correct me if i am wrong. thanks guys

IMO, the fact that it has so many miles isn't a deal breaker on it's own, it's the fact that there are so many FXs out there with low miles. All things being equal, low miles > high miles.

I might consider a 100K+ mile FX if it was dirt cheap and meticulously maintained by someone who kept accurate and complete logs. Then I'd probably look around a bit, find the same thing with way less miles and buy it...

yeah its true that low miles is better than a high mile ones. but like what I said, if hes willing to sell it at around $11k. I wouldn't mind getting it for the fact that I will save thousands over the ones with low miles. But I will definitely keep looking for better deals.

PS: Tchuck and mtbfx, do your fx's have technology package?? how hard is it to park without a backup camera? Thanks

Mine does not have the tech package. Parallel parking is a bit of an adjustment coming from a car with better rear visibility, which is pretty much any car I've ever driven in my life, but you get used to it. After a couple months it's no problem at all. I had a loaner G35x once with the backup camera and while it is cool, I don't mind turning my head to look where I'm going and wouldn't base my purchase on it. My phone has turn by turn navigation as well so I've never wanted that either. The only reason I would really want the nav package is to lose my orange atari-style display screen, but that's a pretty insignificant gripe in the grand scheme.

just to clarify, i didnt mean high miles = something wrong. tchuck addressed it already, so many more fx's with lower miles around. also, isnt he asking 18k for it? you think he will go 7k off?

my fx is just premium, non sport and no tech. park is a little challenging at first, but im used to it, esp after almost 7 years . i never parallel park too.

good to know that its not too difficult to park this bad boy. yeah I really doubt he will go 7k off lol. I'll let you guys know when i find some better deals. I really want the keyless start.
