Looking for cool Mods for my new 2008 FX35

I've loved the FX35 since it first came out & finally got a 2008 with nearly no miles on it! I'm looking to modify it in as many cool ways as possible & looking to you guys for suggestions? I am very disappointed with the factory Ipod interface & how it works (my only disappointment). Is there a way to install an aftermarket stereo & still operate the HVAC functions associated with the screen it shares with the factory stereo? I've heard of people mentioning a media bridge, but how does that work better than the factory interface that uses the XM radio function & what exactly it it?? Additionally I want to customize the interior console mainlyt as well as the other interior & exterior aspects. Finally, I'm far from a mechanic but want to do (or pay someone) to improve the engine performance. What kinds of engine upgrades should I consider?

So far, I've only installed a remote starter & bought a bully/brush guard that I'm about to have put on. Please give me all of your cool suggestions?!?

I'm in college, therefore, I'm cheap.
So what I've done so far is wrap my interior with carbon fiber wrap including the brushed aluminium arm rest, to give it a sweet look. I also like it because it matches my real carbon fiber wallet.
Also, I painted my grille black and left the emblem gold. Some people like to debadge the FX35 emblem on the back to give the bodacious butt some symmetry. I'm still debating on it.
I see you have the '08, which means you won't need to change the shifter console.. or whatever it's called lol since it's >06.
Also, if you don't have the sport version, you can invest in some sport tail lights; it looks better than the regular red tail light, in my opinion.

You can install LED license plate lights (very cheap mod) to give it a nice, luxury look at night.
I installed LED strips (very easy) under my driver/passenger doors, so I look like a boss when I open it.
I have LED lights in my dome lamps as well. For ALL these interior lights, my total was around ~$30.
Apparently, HID fogs are a big thing around here, so there's a DDM HID fog kit for our cars, it's cheap and I've heard good things about it.. SO FAR.

Once summer is here, I'll make a video for a DIY Invisicord for my Escort 9500ix radar detector.

For more expensive mods, you can get springs and spacers for a more aggressive look as well as wheels.
I like concavity for wheels, so I'm looking at Vossen and Giovanni's.

Also, once you reach 10 posts, post a picture of your FX, so we can see what color it is

Welcome to :iS: Here is a list to get you started. It's in no particular order and its a solid list of what most of us have done and recommend already:

• Coilovers/Lowering springs
• 22" wheels & tires
• Big brake kits
• GTSPEC braces
• Exhaust and intake
• Lightweight pullies/intake manifold upgrade
• HID head and fog light upgrades
• Unichip/UPrev tuning
• Carbon fiber wrap - interior pieces

There's plenty more to do, but this should get you hyped up for now.

^^ looks like you're just about halfway through this list you put together quick :smile (2):

Thanks for the starter list, mine is Gunmetal Grey. What exactly are test pipes? If the exhaust you have is "preferred" for the FX35, quote me a price? I used to work on my cars a lot when I was in College, but its been so long, I would be very concerned that I might mess an install up. I live in central NY & have the money to pay someone to do the installs. I ordered a full Japaneese Cherry Wood Dash kit by Remin. I love the look, but you think it will look too cheap? Are there any recommendations or listers that would be interested in doing the installs? Second, is there a preferred web site to order thyings like:

• Coilovers/Lowering springs
• 22" wheels & tires
• Big brake kits
• GTSPEC braces
• Exhaust and intake
• Lightweight pullies/intake manifold upgrade
• HID head and fog light upgrades
• Unichip/UPrev tuning
• Carbon fiber wrap - interior pieces

but in all seriousness, things to buy:
wheels! at least 22"....
coilovers!!!!
exhaust
supporting suspension mods for the lowering of the car.... GTSpec braces
throw a sub in there
customize the exterior to your preference.... an example is above
most people do tinting, etc.
i WOULD NOT recommend wasting money on all of the little bolt-ons here and there...after many $$$$$ and a tune for the car the improvement was not much, and after thw whole fiasco I wished I just saved my money and went FI. The only really way to get faster is forced induction, I wouldn't waste time on the small little things. An exhaust, sure. intake/plenum spacer/hoses/etc and even the pullies......not necessary, even with a tune. The increase in power is not at all worth the massive $$$ spent on the little stuff. If you want to go fast, save up for FI.
Take this as advice from a past fx35 owner...dont waste money on the small stuff.

Good luck! There's tons of information on this site.
If you want to hear a loud FX35, check my old one out:
http://youtu.be/uvzNAF5fk1c

stillen Intake, motordyne plenum spacer, UR crank pulley, tune, Kinetix High flow cats, Kakumei Y-Pipe, NISMO s-tune cat-back (midpipe and muffler) changed outlet pipes to 3"....technosquare tune....gives you that sound..... (those are only a small number of the mods)
After it was all said and done...I spent the same $ That could have gone towards a TT or SC setup on bolt-ons...and only got around 25whp increase.

Do bigger wheels make you slower on the track?

Not always, they can be lighter than factory wheels if forged, etc. You will have a bigger contact patch on the tire if the wheels are "bigger" (wider) which is better grip.
Some people buy bigger wheels that aren't forged, etc. and they are heavier than stock, so technically yes it does slow you a bit...but who is really tracking an FX trying to shave milliseconds off of their time? If that's the concern they can strip their interior... ;)

What exactly are "Test Pipes"? How much are you asking for both?

High flow cats are basically catalytic converters with less crud in them to reduce noise and fix emissions, test pipes are just empty pipes aka LOUD...

You can find them new around $300
