1st gen FX still hunting
Name
Ramiro
Had a 2004 FX years ago and loved it, butI had to sell it due to medical issues.
I've been thinking in getting another one (interested in the Gen1 body type only):

Requirements:

- Prefer FX45 for additional power, but FX35 is ok
- Exterior Color: Silver, Gray, or Black (prefer Silver or Gray)
- AWD
- 20" OEM wheels
- Interior Color: Black
- Mileage: under 100k
- Technology package
- Sport package

I have narrowed my search down to two vehicles:
- 2008 FX45 Gray, with tech, touring and sport packages, 108,000 miles in New Jersey for 16,000 (9 hrs away)

- 2008 FX35 Gray with tech and touring packages, 118,000 miles in Michigan for $13,500 (30 mins away)

For the FX45 is oil consumption still a problem for the 2008 model year?

What else should I look for? What would you get?

Ramiro

Welcome to :iS2:

I would go for the 08 FX45. I also had a FX35 before my FX45. Love my 1st Gen FX45. Haven't heard much complaints on the 07 or 08 FX45 oil consumption on here. Nothing really jumps out to watch out for other then the bubble dash issue.

Thanks!!! Now it is in my credit union's hands to go ahead and get the loan approved.

I have a 2005 FX 45 with no problems (yet) with close to 100,000 miles. Before I got mine, my mechanic told me that it does drink oil, so check the level every now and then. Oh, I would get the 45, you won't regret it! (I have the tech pkg, too)

Think of driving those nine hours listening to that V8 sound and load up the CD changer with your favorite tunes......
Welcome to :iS2: , rammersFX!

I know the FX45 MPG is not stellar, and I dont have a problem with that, this being said, what is the MPG I should expect to get with it? I do not rely on the estimated MPG Infiniti provides simply because their way of measure is under perfect conditions, in a closed circuit, etc.

I'm aware that I must use premium gas too.

Thanks
Ramiro

My own log of mileage from fill up to and next fill up is 17 mpg on my 03 FX45. The on board computer said 22.7 mpg. Go figure.

The worst I've gotten was 8 MPG, city driving.
The best----23 MPG, all highway driving.
Today, I filled up, computer says average of 16 MPG, mixed driving.
There's a reviewer on CNET that says "The EPA says the 2009 FX50 gets 14 city/ 20 hwy. You will NEVER see 20, unless you live at the top of a mountain, and never drive home"......:)

Ok guys, I am officially an owner of a 2008 dark gray Infiniti FX48.
There are a few things I need to replace
- 1 tpms
- suspension
- repair two small rust spots
- Rear lift gate open/close button
- change all fluids with synthetic fluids
- replace sparkplugs
- install oil catch can
- replace day time running light bulbs
- next year I will be looking for the complete upper/lower front/reat strut and stabilizer bars

Congrats! Welcome to the rare car club. According to Edmunds.com, only about 800 2008 FX45's were sold that year. It looks like you've got some work to do! So how was the 9 hour trip?

We left NJ last night, we are spending the day at Philly, and heading home tomorrow

Ok, you guys, I just drove about 700 miles back home, and the issues were uncovered while I drove back from NJ to MI, still very happy with the new vehicle though.

- Need new tires, the inside were cupping very bad. Besides the truck had winter tires.
- Need brake pads and parking brake adjustment
- Need new shocks/struts - need suggestions please!!!
- Need alignment
- Need to replace one of the running daytime light bulbs
Need to reset TPMs.
Need to reset aut bag light.
- Both sunvisor's clips are broken, need to replace them.
Need to order a key, vehicle only came with one

The exhaust note is VERY well muffled (non existent) you cannot hear the roar at all, I will ve changing it soon.

The speedometer was reading 5MPH over the actual Speed, speedo was at 70 MPH while I was driving at 65 MPH

I realized this was originally a Canadian vehicle imported to the US in March 2016.

I was very, very surprised with the MPGs, according to the screen I am getting 560 miles per tank. This is huge MPGs compared to what I used to get with a lifted, offroad ready 2007 Xterra
Does intake modifications impact negatively the torque/HP?

I will be doing a full fluids refresh.
I will be adding an oil catch can
I will be changing spark plugs
Once all intake/exhaust mode are done (next year), I will be dyno tuning it with UpRev - it is a shame there is no superchips or hypertech ECU chip.

Do any of you guys in Michigan/Ohio/Chicago do mods days?

Welcome and congrats on the new ride!

What size are those tires? Sounds like those winter tires might be smaller than the OEM size. This would explain your speedometer reading faster and your "Miles to Empty" being high. The car thinks it's logging more miles than it actually is, therefore calculating a higher MPG.

My recent purchase also only came with one key as well. I bought a used smart key and blank on eBay for about $45. Just make sure the FCC code matches the key you do have. Smart key programming has to be done by the dealer or a qualified locksmith. The dealer's service advisor quoted my a half hours labor ($57). But I'm not sure all dealers will quote less than a full hour of labor.

The tires are Yokohama Ice Guard 265/50/20. I will have the dealer take a look at the truck to tell me what it needs (parts) then I will set some time aside to play with it.
I do my own work for brakes, oil, filters, spark plugs, etc.

Thankd

Well, I dropped the suv at the dealer Thursday 7AM to get the speedo/odometer recall taken care.

I drop the vehicle, and get a Q50 as a loaner. They said 3 hours or so.

I got a call earlier today (36 hrs later after leaving my car at the dealer) saying that they finally found out how to fix the issue, but that it will take a new speedo and another piece for them to be able to install the software, and also that the new unit will come pre-programmed and the speedo/odometer adjusted to reflect the actual speed and mileage.
It is expected to be done by sometime late next week.
I will be getting a mileage "reimbursement" as the vehicle speedo is 5.5 mph faster than the actual speed (starting at 30 mph up to 85 mph). My wife took a few pics of the phone gps, the dashboard gps, and the speedo and I submitted those as proof.

In case someone is interested, I found several shops in 3 hr radius that dyno tyne the FXs - 1 in Toledo, OH, 2 in Cleveland, OH, 3 in Chicago, IL and 1 in Grand Rapids, MI

BTW, big kuddos to Suburban Infiniti of Novi (MI), the attention and customer service is top notch.

Picked up my FX yesterday. The dealer says the speedo difference has been fixed, and my odometer went from 109,924 to 106,124. The issue is that my speed still reads 4.5 miles slower than actual speed. Before the "fix" it was 5.4 miles over actual. So their "fix" only corrected the issue by 1 mile or so.

The dealer is not returning my phone calls/voice messages and emails I have sent. I am going to have to call Infiniti USA to get movement on this.
