not having luck searching around for the location of the air bypass control valve on my 2003 fx35. anybody know and have pics?

in another thread regarding high system idles, it was recommended to clean the air bypass control valve to ensure it was not letting in too much air at idle. that it may get stuck in an open position. so i'd like to clean it before doing anything drastic. already checked all over for air leaks, checked the air flow meter, blah, blah, blah...

thanks in advance!

Hello Speedyjp,

It looks like the throttle body itself is the idle air control valve. If you're looking to check the controller motor for shorts, that may mean yanking apart the throttle body.

Here are some pictures showing the throttle body pulled apart a bit:

You can see the motor in these pics, it looks like there are 3 screws that need to come out to get it out of the TB.

thanks audiowize. i put in a new throttle body and would assume i shouldn't have controller motor issues. but of course i posted here so i still have the idle problem.

thx stu. we successfully performed the reset procedure only for the problem to reoccur a day or two later. i dunno....

from your input and audiowize's, i may have an electrical short somewhere. my high system idle and overheating problems occurred after performing a full tune up including replacing the valve covers/gaskets. probably clipped some wires. fugggh

Sounds like this is what you need: https://www.infinitiscene.com/search/1/?q=4922-Throttle-Body-Cleaning-(High-Idle)

TB is located in the upper middle right of this view of the engine, also at the end of the intake tube.

Oh, well, having performed that service, you probably have a vacuum leak somewhere. Is the high idle also a rough idle?

I'd ensure that all the vacuum lines are attached. there is one 1/4" line that attaches to the bottom of the upper plenum near the throttle body - I'd double check that one first.

Also, how is the PCV vacuum hose fitting?

I just did the same service to my FX, it will overheat at idle until you get all the air out. The way I did this was to get the radiator as full as possible, run the car, bleed any air from the bleeder screw near the battery compartment, then go on short warmup drives, followed by extensive cooldown, being sure to keep the overflow reservoir reasonably well topped off. As the system cools down, it will draw more coolant in, when you get it nice and hot and warmed up, the air can purge out the top into the overflow (you can speed this up by tying the spring on the radiator cap open if you like).

Don't worry about the t/b or electronics, these are problems that develop very slowly.

Another thing to keep an eye on is the torque on the bolts that hold the plenum down. If these are not really snugged down, your idle will be all out of wack.
