It's just the test mule

Lexus’ long-awaited LF-A has unofficially smashed the lap record at Germany’s Nürburgring, with a time of seven minutes, 24 seconds. That beats Porsche’s new GT2 by a second and makes the Lexus the King of the ’Ring. Company insiders have revealed that a 4.8-litre V10 – co-developed with Yamaha – powered the record-breaking test mule. It revs to 9,000rpm and pumps out 552bhp. Combined with a highly aerodynamic body, it should enable the LF-A to hit 210mph.

Lexus LF-A Supercar to cost ~ $225,000

Edmunds Inside Line

PASADENA, California — After three auto show appearances and the occasional spy photo and video from Germany's high-speed Nürburgring test circuit, it's no secret that the Lexus LF-A supercar concept is headed for production. With an estimated 500 horsepower coming from the LF-A's 5.0-liter V10, we didn't expect the Lexus to come cheap, but Inside Line has learned that the car will carry a price tag over $200,000.

Ben Mitchell, corporate product planning manager for Lexus, confirmed that the price of the carbon-fiber supercar "will begin with a two." And another Lexus source in Japan told Inside Line the price may be as high as $225,000.

Shown in both coupe and roadster forms, the LF-A will first launch as a coupe. Roadster versions will be priced even higher. Both body styles are approximately 2 inches shorter and an inch narrower than the 483-hp Ferrari F430, with a similarly sized wheelbase. A 2007 Ferrari F430 Spider costs $211,525.

Although final specifications have not yet been released, Lexus says the LF-A will reach a top speed over 200 mph.

What this means to you: Lexus is gunning for the Italians with the LF-A, and it's not going to cut any corners in its quest to deliver a legitimate supercar. — Kelly Toepke, News Editor

the California's nice, but I like the Luca Serafini concept better... (I see some Maserati influence in the)

REPORT: Toyoda says Lexus LF-A on time and headed for America, reconfirms Toyobaru

http://www.autoblog.com/2009/08/06/report-toyoda-says-lexus-lf-a-on-time-and-headed-for-america-r/

There's a new sheriff in town at Toyota, and he's wasting no time in making his presence felt at the World's Largest Automaker. Fortunately, that finally means a return to building fun-to-drive cars after years of offering virtually nothing to tempt the enthusiast market. We can only hope that some of that sporting DNA finds its way into the rest of the automaker's staid lineup as well.

"The severe drop in the economy and auto market has created some of the most challenging times Toyota has ever faced," says new Toyota Prez Akio Toyoda. "I aim to take us back to what made Toyota successful for many years – making high-quality products at an affordable price."

According to Toyoda, two of the most eagerly anticipated (non-hybrid) vehicles from Toyota in years are moving ahead at full steam. First of all, the seemingly forever-delayed Lexus LF-A sportscar is back on track and headed Stateside. Secondly, Toyoda reconfirmed earlier reports that the planned affordable sportscar made in partnership with Subaru is on its way within the next few years. Finally, change we can believe in!

You can buy almost 3 GTR's for the price of the LFA (if it's $225k), it's only 2 seconds faster than the 2010 GTR, it sounds like a little girl at WOT (although the little girl sound resembles F1 I won't lie) and I am pretty sure I've seen an older design with 3 exhaust tips, I'll look to see if any concepts came out before this thing with 3 exhaust tips (maybe it was this concept that I first saw it, dunno yet).

I do like the fact that it's a MUCH smaller V10 than the Viper's and is similar in power. I love Yamaha and I think this motor will be an engineering masterpiece if it goes into production. As for performance, it's on par with a Viper ACR and surprisingly a tad better than the ZR1??? Again, amazed with what Yamaha can do

its better looking than either the slr mclaren OR the porsche carrerra gt... and you can buy two of the lexus for the same price as either of those...
really.. NO car is worth that much.. youll never be able to drive any of them to their potential on any street
hence they are called dream cars...
