Ok, so this is the situation: My cousin is going to Infiniti of manhasset tomorrow to lease an '09 Infiniti fx35. He is taking advantage of the $539 promotion with prem and navi package. He also wants to purchase the 20' rims.
Here is my question: If he purchases the 20' rims at closing, is he entitled to keep the stock 18' rims?
He was asking me for guidance in regards to how to approach the dealer for the best possible deal, and he was surprised that I would even mention this being a possibility. I mean, I think it stands to reason that if you're buying the rims as at an additional cost, you should not have to forfeit the 18' rims.
He was arguing with me that they won't let him keep the 18' rims but I find that ridiculous. I mean, he's paying $539 a month for an fx35, with premium package, with navigation, with 4 tires and rims, lol. If he decides to spend an extra $2g's he should not have to give up the 18' unless he is given a substantial discount on the purchase of the 20's.
For example, say he were to say; "Forget it, I won't be purchasing the 20' rims". Hypothetically, he can walk right to the parts department, ask to buy the 20' rims, and do so and noone would question him having to give up his 18' rims.
Anyway, I'm just trying to protect my cousin because I don't want him taken advantage of by someone who knows more than he does. I'm trying to get him the best deal possible for him to save money. And being able to flip brand new 18's on the black market is definitely a way for him to recoup some of his costs.
Btw, I'm not familiar with leasing. When paying taxes, I'm assuming he is only going to pay taxes on the depreciation of the vehicle and not the vehicle as a whole correct?
Oh, also.. According to him he would be paying: $3,999 up front (includes 1st month at $539) Premium package, navigation package, 20' rims (Approx $2g's according to him.. I told him to just get the deluxe touring package and get a few more features for $650 more). The taxes he will put on the lease and according to the salesman he would be paying about $620 a month, does this seem fair?
I need thoughts people!!
