So had Safelite change a windshield last year. Literally 365 days ago from today. About a week ago, the car would start, but no dash lights. Odd. I checked fuses, found the 10Amp "Elec Parts" to have a 15 Amp blown fuse in it... Its the one on the left side by the drivers foot, Fifth one from the top. I replaced with a 10Amp. Worked for a day. Next start, Dash came on for a second, then went off. Which told me fuse was blown again. Checked fuse, yeap blown. Car will still start and run at this point, just with no dash or gauges. Blinkers and Brake lights worked, so drove it home. At home, started looking at fuses, reading what that that fuse supplies power to. Found a reference to the rear view mirror. Sure enough, the rear view mirror was not coming on. Placed another 10Amp fuse in it, mirror came on for a second, then fuse blew again. Started looking at wiring around mirror and found burned wires. Took off the black cover that hides the wires from the mirror up to the headliner, and found two wires crimped together by the black clips. The guy literally stabbed the loom, and it cut the wires like a knife, but barely made the touch. Anyway, it melted the harnes all the way past the airbag. Split the harness where you can clearly see the burned cable.

Has anyone changed this harness? Looks like a bear. Infiniti quoted 4 hours and 250 for parts. So about 1200 out the door. Have an appointment with them for next Monday. I can get it started, and manually bypass the shift lock and it drives! Should be fun going 65 miles to the dealer that way with no AC...

Part number for the harness is: 24060 3gt4a

Oh man what a shame! These technicians need to be careful when they handle things. Sure they can point out that a wrong fuse was used and that cooked the wire loom but still I always avoid these types of issues just because it can end up costing someone unnecessary financial loss. Looking at the part number and where it is situated, most of it goes down the driver-side A pillar just underneath the inner A pillar cover. That cover is not difficult to take off but there is a one time use clip that will need to be replaced. This clip is also a tether designed to break loose when the curtain airbag deploys but also prevents the cover from hitting anyone. I've seen that cable when I was replacing my windshield. Once you remove that cover the cable is exposed. It looks like it clips into the next harness where the A pillar meets the dashboard, near the speaker or just underneath the dash. Then rest then is on the roof liner over to the rearview mirror. Everything is based on clips so I can't see this being a major pain just patience and using proper technique to not break a part.

Yea, Safelite came out and looked at it today and agreed to do the repair. He said it does look like they clipped it on accident. So I cannot fault them for that. I am unsure if they put the larger fuse in there at the time, or it was before i owned it. Either way, I cannot fault them at this point because they are making it right. He said their book shows they can get to the harness without removing the dash. Dealer said top of dash has to come off and some dismantled on the underside so you can get a hand in there. So I am going to take it to Safelite tomorrow and see what happens. They have agreed to drag it to Infiniti if they cannot fix it.
