KP Technologies MX20 Controller for Independent Fog Lights for 09 - 13 FXs

You got 1.3V at KP Green is when the fog light switch on the stalk is in the ON position correct?

---------- Post added at 03:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:21 PM ----------

of course no power when the fog light switch is OFF.

If it don't work out bro you can always just use a independent switch and relay to the fogs which is way easier to install.

If I go that route. I would have an extra switch for the fogs, correct?

Let's say that the new switch is off, and the oem fog light switch on stalk is on. Would it still function as factory? Where as the fogs will turn on when the heads lights are on

Nope it won't work as factory, you would have to use that switch to turn it on and off but it shouldn't even matter because they will stay on all the time even with the headlights on/off. The switch is just there just in case you want to turn it off. I have it on my other car and I use it as a DTRL. I never turn mine off, they are always on during the day and stay on at night when I turn my headlights on.

The FX that Andy worked on was mine. If the KP module didn't work I was just going to use a switch and relay. Simple and easy

Andy's DIY is accurate by the way, I was there the whole time and watched the install. The KP people must me dam idiots calling Andy's DIY wrong. It worked so how the hell can it be wrong lol..... Freakin stupid and they call themselves engineers?

As long as the wiring and signal from the stalk to the BMC is the same for 2009 - 2013, it should work. And we have verified that they're exactly the same. So I can't understand why they say the DIY was wrong. I would love to hear what they have to say.......I bet they going to say the module is not compatible with 2nd Gen and just luck that I got one install to work....

I read on other DIY forums that they removed their stalk and tap into the oem switch and added a relay to do this mod. No kptech module. Is it possible for our oem stalk too? Don't want to have an extra switch.

Our stalk put out multiple signal via a couple of pins on a connector at the steering column and then the output signal is process by the BMC module with other signal it has at the time to determine which/what to turn on/off. Needless to say, you cannot capture specific output signal at the stalk until it pass through the BMC.

The KP box is really a "universal" box as long as the four input signal is good, it will give an output to the orange wire to drive whatever you want using it. I know I had the same problem with the LED not light up at first. I have been trying to recall what I did to fix it the last couple of days, but I can't seem to remember still.

Wish the Rip's FX still here so I can take a quick peek on it.

Damn. I'm trying everything to figure this out. Kptech emailed me procedure to test out the module if it is defected. Hope maybe that is the case so I can get a new module. But if rip can check out the BMC and find out which wires are connected to what, that would be awesome!

I wish I could help man but I don't have my fx currently. I'm out of town for 3 weeks.

So I just followed Kptech procedure to test the module, by disconnecting kp orange from relay, remove kp green and blue from vehicle. Connected kp yellow to white, then kp green and blue together on a 12v source. The LED on the module lights up. Now I'm lost... Don't know what to do

Just did another test. Had kp orange disconnected. Kp green on brown (your guide), but instead of kp yellow on blue and kp blue on white (your guide), I switched them. Now it works as I toggle the fog light switch. So now I got that figured out, I believe it's the ipdm now. Are you sure the kp orange is connected to relay white? I have it disconnected for now

Yes, the KP orange wire connects to the relay white wire. I have added a better picture to show the actual connection.

I have to revisit the "input" and "output" terminology in the perspective of the combination (stalks) switch, the BMC pin out, and the KP installation instruction.
I've made a mistake on the DIY. My DYI was wrong. I have updated the DIY with the corrected connections in step #5.

I should retire from creating anymore DYI, now ! :embarrassed:

My apology to akachi for causing you all the headaches with this DIY.

So the KP module is connected properly on the BMC.

Now I've fiddled with the relay and I connected relay blue to white (pin 19 on E5)
relay red to pin 86 on E8 (connector side)
relay black to pin 86 on E8 to the other cut side

Now my foglight turns on independently but it's on when the car is on, cannot turn off with the oem stalk.

But here's how it looks with the fogs on and also with the city lights (dual orb lights)

la_fx35, i just noticed there's a purple wire on the relay and looks like it's connected to the relay green. Do you remember that wire? I don't have that purple wire

Regardless your the man Andy, this DIY was hard in and of itself. No one would have figured this out if it wasn't for you bro.

Andy, everyone appreciates all the work and time you spend helping all of us.
Thanks a bunch :good:

Ok, you reversed the relay Red and relay Blue connections.

You should connect as follow:
Connect the relay Red wire (terminal 86) to White wire (pin 19 on E5).
Connect the relay Blue wire (terminal 87A) to the cut white wire end on the E8 connector side.

Disregard the purple wire, it not for this DIY.

I followed your guide on the relay and it didn't work so I messed around with it and this what I got so far.. I will look at the relay terminal again tomorrow to see maybe the color is different?
