K&N air filter

I just placed an order for a new K&N drop-in air filter (33-2398) for my M45.

I think I found a good deal for it, under $38 with shipping.

Should sound good with my Megan Racing exhaust.

So your saying that the exhaust tone will not increase at all, out of the 3 cars how many are V8 with an aftermarket exhaust?

While checking & cleaning under the hood I took out the air filter and drove around for about 10 blocks, I have to tell you that my exhaust note was louder (not day & night but I could hear the diff).

Also last year I took my front air box (sits on top of radiator) out of the car to get it painted with the other panels and I have to say it sounded really good and I even felt more power at high rpm's. It felt even better than just taking out the oem filter.

Get an INJEN or other CAI like the R2C, http://www. /forum/threads/358-M45-Injen-Intake

I found a good deal on amazon for my Injen and the sound increase with it on is so much better. I put my stock box back on for a weak and the acceleration sound was so boring/non-existent that I thought the car was slower. Put the injen back on and couldn't be happier.

I would get the R2C but I don't want to lose my low-end. And it's over priced at over $300

My exhaust (Megan Racing) note with my stock oem air box was louder than another members M45 which has the same mods as I do but he has the R2c intake. My cars exhaust note sounded much stronger & louder. even the other members couldn't believe it, lets just say his face did all the talking.

in fact he met me at my house before the BBQ and on the way to the park on the turnpike (side by side) I was gone, it was a big diff. It was a short run (1/2ml) but we did get the cars to 125mph

I did tell him not to buy it but he did, at least it looks good under the hood..

You need to purchase an intake if you want more vroom. Replacement filter will not do you any good for sound. If it sounds louder for you, it's all psychological. haha. Have fun.

I'll keep my oem box for sure, not looking for more intake noise but it would be nice if the K&N would make my exhaust a little meaner. I hope the K&N at least flows better than the oem paper filter.

It should be here some time next week and I'll let you know what happens.

I heard the K&N sticker alone gives 4hp :)

Well I got the K&N filter in today and installed it.

Hard to tell but I don't think my exhaust note changed, at least for now. I'll let you now when I start the car in the morning, she always sound best when fired up cold the first time.

up front the air filter sound was the same but different (faster flow). The K&N filter didn't make a sound difference in the cabin at all.

What did change was the way the car rev's up, it rev's up much faster than when having the oem air filter (green).

So I took the car for a spin with my youngest daughter (10yrs old) which loves speed. As soon as I hit the gas the first time from a stop I felt the car pull much harder, looking over to my daughter I see that even she could feel the difference as she had a big grin.

I came to a stop then drove the car normal (slow) until 2nd gear kicked in, as soon as it did I floored it and she pulled even harder (now I had a big grin). While turning a corner I was able to break the tires much easier than before and keep in mind I'm not running small tires, I have 285/30/20 Vredesteins.

I tested all the small runs at low rpms, started nothing above 2k rpm and the power was there

When I got back to the house my daughter gets out of the car and tells my wife (sitting on stairs) that I some how made the car faster and she loves it, my wifes reply was yea I know I heard you guys (with an attitude). She told me she could here the car almost 2 blocks away which made me think that the exhaust maybe did get louder under full throtle.

So I'm very happy with the out come of the drop-in K&N air filter, I think it works great with the Megan Racing full exhaust. My next test will come soon when I take the car on the highway by myself (high rpms). I'm sure the car will run much better now.

I wasn't expecting to feel that much of a difference but I did. Now my oem air filter only had about 2k miles on it and was pretty clean so I'll be using it again after October (winter time). I'll use the K&N for spring & summer only.

So another member Pm'd me telling me I should remove the small muffler which is on top of the air intake boot and for the summer I should do the by-pass on the throttle body (less heat)..

So after parking the car I removed the small muffler and cap the hole. I used silicone to ensure of not having a leak. The TB by-pass will have to wait for another day.

I'll post more info after driving the car on the highway.

You must be extra sensitive to changes. The only thing I noticed about K&N filter is that all of them are pre-oiled. haha. I'm sure you'll get bored of it and want to get an intake kit that'll give you more bling and vroom later.
