Previously I’ve run the 265/45 Michelin Latitude Touring HP - “fine” tire, at best, and in oem size, but poor tread life.

Then I bought a set of OEM sized Pirelli P Zero summers simply because they were on sale for half price on tire rack and I wanted to experience at least once what a summer tire would be like on the FX. The P Zeros looked great and they handled well, but unless you were really pushing it, you actually couldn’t tell that much of a difference between the Michelin latitudes and the P zeros surprisingly. I guess the all wheel drive and driving dynamics are so good that it canceled out some of the tire performance differences except at the limits. The P Zeros wore woefully - I was practically at the wear bars in about 10,000 miles and then got a small nail in the front passenger and just decided to go ahead and replace them. Never had tires wear so fast, and that was with 5000 mile rotations.

So, I ended up like many others with the 295/40/21 Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus and overall I will say that I’m extremely satisfied with the look and feel and have zero regrets. I swore to myself that my next set of tires was going to be the Michelin pilot sport AS but after reading all of the reviews between these two tires with the Contis coming out on top, and the more aggressive tread pattern of the continentals, I decided to give them a shot. Also cheaper by about 50$ per tire.

Long story short, so far so good day 1. Once again it’s hard to tell a tremendous amount of difference - the car still drives great and hopefully this will keep me out of a ditch if we ever get our normal winter weather and should hopefully get me about three years worth of service.

Great choice! I went the same route on my 2015 QX70S and have zero regrets. So far, I've put 5,000+ miles on the tires, most of which were last winter in Minneapolis, MN and had much more confidence in snow/ice/rain compared to the Michelins. I also notice a big difference with pot holes and uneven pavement & rutting.

Now I'm looking at potentially lowering on H&R springs and wondering if anyone is running the same set-up? It looks like there should be plenty of room up front to lower ~1.5inch, but would hate to go back to the 265/45s.

Agreed with your comments. Now that I’ve had them for a few days, and modulated the tire pressure up just a bit to right at 35psi (while very cold - it’s freezing here), I’m very happy with how they perform. Hard to think about ever going back to 265 as the 295s look better overall IMO and there’s just something satisfying about knowing how much tire you’re running :). Plus, the selection of tires in the 265 size is terrible - moving up to 295 gives a world of additional choices.

Between the new tires and how good the FX feels running strong in this super cold weather, my mpg has definitely taken a hit recently…

I was running a set of michilen(305/35/22) pilot super sports and man do they have a ton of dry and wet grip. Compared to other brands I've ran in the past , I'd say the pilot super sports and the 4s are ago. The p-zero imo are junk. The only other tires I recommend is Continental for normal driving and toyo for track days.

Agreed. The Super Sports were great and the 4S even better - owned them both, just not on the FX.

One more satisfied 295/40/21 owner. Changed from some OEM Dunlops to Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV. Really nice difference, I would say softer ride on speedbumps and way more quiet than Dunlops. Hope they will last 40k kms...
