Just detailed the car using blackfire products

So I am the second owner of my FX and the first one didn't take care of the paint at all. The paint condition was mediocre in most places and bad in some... I didn't actually really notice it though until I went over the car thoroughly the other day. Just thought I would post up the results for those that are curious!

This is my DD so I kept it pretty simple:
1) Wash
2) Dry
3) Claybar (would skip next time or use gentler clay)
4) Blackfire polish and seal applied with random orbit polisher
5) Blackfire Wet Diamond paint sealant applied with random orbit polisher
6) Waxed (Blackfire as well)

The clay I used I think was too harsh for the paint and it put some marring on the surface which came out with polishing... A gentler clay could be used maybe but I don't think I'll bother next time.

I had lots of swirl marks, some chips down to the metal, some just to primer, and some that had been filled with a paint pen. Some deep scratching on the rear by the wheel etc. The front of the vehicle was the worst and it would take a lot of polishing to bring it back but... I don't consider it worth it on my DD... the paint on these vehicles is soft to begin with so I wanted to basically do a 'gentle' detail (Blackfire polish and seal has lots of fillers).

Anyway considering the paint condition and the 'before' status that I can't show I am extremely impressed with the results. For me, considering again that this is my DD, the effort required to results quotient was definitely there. Let me know what you think!

I should have taken before pics but I didn't...

Looks nice, although the flash in the last shot shows some marks still. Sometimes you gotta let some go to keep the clear thick enough.

Thanks guys! Glad it was helpful!

@ Stulax: Yes its not super perfect but I'm very impressed. My paint wasn't in good condition to start with at all. I really wish I had before pics... It was pretty bad for a vehicle like this. Up close in sun you can see some swirls but they are faint and most people won't see them at all. We share the same opinion though- on a daily driver its more important to preserve as much of the clear and paint as possible.

@ jdTrader: Thanks! I was hoping someone else could comment on longevity; I in effect double sealed so I'm hoping it will last!

For those that are interested as well Blackfire now has a product called 'Crystal seal' which is essentially the same/similar to Wet Diamond paint sealant. The difference is you spray it on your car instead of applying by hand or machine. Would be super fast to apply and reviews seem pretty good although I haven't tried it.

I should also mention I'm not in any way affiliated with Blackfire or anyone else- I just gave them a shot and really liked their stuff.

Looks good

Unless you used a rotary buffer, you probably barely even removed enough of the clear. Factory paint such as Infiniti's come with 50-55 microns of clear shown under a paint thickness gauge. Extremely heavy polishing such as the use of a rotary buffer only removed around 2 microns which barely makes a difference. You could even go as far as wet sanding the clear and it wouldn't be a big difference.

A good rule of thumb is to keep it polished 1-2 times a year. You could polish once a year for the next 20 years and not have to worry about it.
