bought a 1 year old used set of h&r's and he also gave me one year old kyb struts, Had them installed yesterday and now when i go over bumps i get a clunk noise. It doesn't happen when i turn my wheel, only when i'm driving and going over bumps. Any idea what it could be? My cousin thinks it's normal but the sound wasn't there before, even when i had my friends cut stock springs up front. Noise is coming from the front only. Anyone have a guess

Did you change the strut bearings?

As stated above check strut mount/bearing, check the all the nuts also. Another place you need to check is your sway bar end link nuts and bolts. Go under the car with tires on the ground, give the sway bar end links a shake on each side, and see if it clunks, if so tightnen the nut

Also you need to take the car to an alignment after a spring/strut change, they can do a quick inspection and tell you where the sound is coming from

Meme, we tightened the bolts in the engine bay while the fx was in the air, i was thinking of re-tightening then with the fx on the ground. Dracula, haven't got an alignment cuz the front was lowered before and an alignment was done then. Mtn fx, Have not changed the strut bearings, could that cause the noise? I thought a bad strut bearing would make noise turning the steering wheel. fx drives perfect, just the noise. Could it be the strut mount?

Correct. Strut bearing noise as you turn or going up driveways. Gets louder as you lose your balls. Sounds like something else. I recall a TSB for fender bolts. Maybe that?

Just a thought, How tight do the springs sit in rear buckets when car is up?

But if the springs are not cut. Likely not the issue

Springs in rear buckets sit good, springs are not cut. Sounds like a clunking noise like something is loose but everything is tight. If i push down on the hood i don't hear any noises. My friend thinks it's the strut mounts. It makes a clunk when i go over bumps, especially slow but no noise when i turn the wheel. I will also be re-tightening the bolts in the engine baytomorrow, haven't done that yet

Dude have your lower ball joints, sway bar links, and tie rod ends checked out. Front end clunking sounds over bumps usually points to those as the culprits.

I will check those out Matrixx, just not sure why they would go now. Problem wasn't there before the install

I'll tell you right now, when my car was clunking after my spring install it was because the strut towers were not tighetened. So the actual strut was going up and down inside the tower clunking and moving around.

Torque those to spec and make sure the strut tower nut itself is also tight. If that doesn't work, then you will need to pull the wheels off and start looking at other components

well i tightened up the bolts in the engine bay and the strut tower bolt and the noise is still there. That sucks cause now i have to look deeper into it. Could the struts be bad? The guy i bought them from said he only had them for four months on his fx. Funny thing Meme is the sound i get is how you described yours but everything is tight, even a little over tight.

Glad you found the cause. I too would of guess Strut bearing.

BTW: thread is on the wrong 09+ section.

^^^I noticed it was in the wrong fx forum when i couldn't find it today and had to do a search. I bought new sway bar links. Did they only have to tighten them? I just bought new sway bar links a year ago. My cousin tightened them as best he could, thought they were tight but never checked with the fx on the ground as Dracula suggested

Make sure they are tightened with the car level. I had to get one replaced because it had seized to my strut. The shop didn't check when they installed it so it messed up my alignment. It's attached to the sway bar and your strut so if one side is way off, it will push on your strut on the other side. I only figured it out when my wheels were at different angles even though my camber plates were set the same.
