Jumbo's BBK Thread

On eBay, I'm finding a bunch of 10mm - but for Mercedes, Audi & BMW. Would these fit? I am asking the sellers, but was wondering if all 5-stud patters are the same? I can either use the 10mm, or turn it down to 8mm, which is really what I need.

Found one that should work on the JEGS site - Billet spacer, .25" = 7.1 mm, with an option for the FX bolt pattern. Anybody see any issues with this?

This would give me about 3mm clearance.

Why don't you go with a good brand 10mm one? 3mm is not much of a difference plus a 10mm spacer will make your stockers look much better. One of the sellers on the link Jeff gave below is the guy I bought all my spacers (15mm ichiba v2, 20mm ichiba v2 and finally 15mm ichiba v1). Just get a set of 10mm Ichiba v1 and be happy.

That's probably decent advice, but I'm trying to minimize spacers as they are pretty much never recommended, even if they are high quality and hub-centric. I want the minimum caliper clearance (to show them off), and I would prefer the wheel does not stick out past the side fender. Barely tucked in is the the look I'm going for, which is pretty much where I'm at with the .25" spacer.

There's more to the story as well. In trying to make the BBK work for me this past weekend, I have already swapped out the front studs for a longer set - but the hub holes needed to be widened by one hole size. I can never put stock studs in the front hubs again, unless I replace the hubs or get custom busings made. So the Billet spacer is really the best, custom solution for me, to get that exact minimum caliper clearance and side fender clearance look that I want. It's definitely a bit of a feel thing for me. I'm not into the ricer look as much, with a family and kids in the car as often as not. Maybe with my next project car...

Again, I want to emphasize that 3mm is not a visible or structural difference at all. Plus, it only gets flush with the fenders when you go 20mm or more. The pics below is mine with 15mm spacers and 275/40 tires. There's a good amount of horizontal gap between the fender edge and the tire face even with these. Also, when you get spacers, you'll have the usual vibration issue whether or not you get 7mm or 10mm unless you perfectly center the hub using some electrical tape (or in my case, using teflon tape). Sorry for the dirty pics.

Of course, if you get billet spacers perfectly machined for your hub size, that'll be much better.. In that case, forget about what I wrote above

Good info to know the 20mm is flush - thanks. Looking at my front wheels, they already seemed flush. I'll take a closer look to see what I can really tolerate.

The spacers that I posted above are supposed to be exact for our hub bore - so should be a perfect fit without tape. I'll confirm when they come in. I was going to avoid vibration because this .25" spacer is short enough to allow the OEM hub ring to center the wheel. Any other spacer over 10mm must use the spacer for centering the wheel, because the hub lip won't reach all the way through the spacer, like it does on this .25".

?????????

Gimme a break! It's obviously personal preference! 3mm is the clearance between the caliper and wheel. I would have expected a diss like this from the ORG (but maybe without the smiley)!

The spacer I ordered is ~7mm, so if the difference between this one and the 10mm makes it look like a ricer to you then I guess I'm guilty - in your eyes. I'm totally happy and want to keep to my standard of using the hub to center the wheel and not the spacer. Just my choice, and I'm cool with that.

Jumbo, I think he referred this:

I'm not into the ricer look as much, with a family and kids in the car as often as not.

That was part of the reply to my 10mm recommendation (10-7 = 3mm =>> Ricer ) & Stu was just kidding with you, not disrespecting your choices  I think if you can get rid of the centering ring on the regular aftermarket spacers using a custom 7mm one, I think that's a great choice. One less moving/adjustable part for you.. I personally would definitely go for a custom spacer like yours (but would do 15mm rice anyways  ) if I knew the quality was on par and if I could get rid of the centering ring..

This is definitely not .org and people do respect your choices but come on, tolerate some quick for-fun messing

I can roll with the punches - just gonna justify my choices. I ain't hatin on anybody here. Stu is all good.

That's one negative thing about posting - you can't hear the, "tone" of somebody's words - his or mine! Guess that's part of the reason for using the emoticons, when they fit.

I'm all for the rice look - on other cars. It can be a hot look, just does not fit my current preferences for my luxury SUV.

This is a late post, but came across this:

http://www.wheeladapter.com/wheel_spacers.php

They make custom wheel spacers to any thickness and will make them hubcentric

Haha yeah I was just pointing out that it's only a 3mm difference between the 7mm and 10mm spacer. You said something about not wanting to be to rice so I was making a joke that a 3mm difference makes it rice. I didn't want to blatantly point it out or it wouldn't be as funny. I see Ege picked up on it at least so I did a good enough job. But yeah, I see what you are saying about the sizes and it does sound like the 7mm mike actually work best.
