Jumbo Oil Catch

Looks great Jumbo . I still don't have time to get mine design finalized. I am going with the threaded fittings instead of the welded on both inlets with 3/8" NPT (I still don't know if i should go with the welded one, I am thinking to adjust the direction of the inlet barb a bit in the future if I need to add something). I am thinking of using the screw hold the hood sensor pin and mount the catch can in that area. But I still do not have the time to come up with the proper mounting bracket design, sigh.

Hey Jumbo,

Just to make sure I am clear when I going to install mine catch can in about two weeks.

One inlet goes to the first rocker cover vent at the front on the passenger side and the other one goes to the other rocker cover vent under the TB (which one is that?) and the outlet goes back to the PCV on the intake pipe.

I would assume your hose size will be bigger than the OEM size, did you just use clamps to tight it up or you actually use reducer barb?

Thanks,

Yes, the front passenger side is the 3/8" hose and the driver side under the TB is the 5/16" hose. The outlet is also 5/16". These are all stock size hoses, so I did not have to use any kind of reducer. Everything should fit up without adapters.

I have ordered different brands of silicone hoses in the past and the outer diameter (wall thickness) can be different from one shop/website to another. Don't plan on using the OEM tension clamps - they might be a bit small. Good luck! I'm happy with mine so far!

Thanks Brad. Your specially designed Jumbo Can is really awesome. I can't wait to see it.

Thanks for the help. :.smile:

No problem!

Even though I tried to make this forward compatible for Forced Induction, I'm absolutely convinced that this particular design is the best one available for our Naturally Aspirated FX. It functions just like the ARC with exactly the same size fittings and hoses but for less than 1/4 of the price! Also, the ARC uses baffles instead of a mesh filter media, so I believe this Saikou is actually more effective at filtering out the oil.

Good luck to anybody who wants to install this (or any other) catch and I'd be happy to help any way I can.

This thread was just as good the second time through...

Just sent my preliminary order email to Saikou. I'm going to wait until I receive the can and decide on a mounting location before I order the hoses.
How is yours working out Jumbo?

I had Saikou to formed a custom bracket to mount the can at the hood pin location.

I haven't mounted it yet, but I will show some pictures once I got it done next week. My location will be hanging my can in the space between the coolant tank and the windshield washer fluid funnel.

There is not a car enthusiast who doesn't believe that he can improve on the factory design of something on his car.

The truth is sometimes he can.:laugh:

I owned a 1978 Jaguar XJ-S V-12 for 27 years. Sometime during the last 15 years or so I started to get oil in the air filter housing from the PCV system. In addition the seepage of oil from the engine seals were getting worse. I finally looked at the PVC system on the V-12 engine and realized to was inadequate to say the least.
I designed a new PVC system that included an air oil separator and catch can.
With the exception of the vacuum hoses, all parts were purchased at the local Home Depot.
I sold the Jaguar on Thanksgiving day 2009, however I have kept my website up, detailing the PVC system. For those interested the url is:

Mine is working out great so far. I have emptied the can once so far - at my typical 4500 mile oil change. There was a little more than an ounce of oil in the can. Seems like a lot of oil that did not get sucked into the plenum - I feel good about how it's doing it's job. Since the install I have not pulled the plenum to SEE if there is any oil making it past the catch can, but if the oil in the can is any indication, it's working fine.

Communication with Saikou was daily for me. Hopefully you will hear from them soon.

So I emptied my catch can for the first time since I installed it today. I did have an oil change a while back, but waited till now. I was shocked at how much came out. I did the original install on 12/22, so this is three months of driving. Is that much blow-by common?!? Wow.

Yuck! Seeing the quality of that oil definitely changes my mind about the idea of installing a valve to dump the captured oil back into the system.

I have a 08 fx35. i was wondering if installing it in my fx is the same as your 04.
Also where do i buy a catch can from and what brand?
what else would i need to install it?

I just did my oil catch using chedman13's jegs..... (sorry i know this is jumbo catch thread)
has anyone opened their plenum to check if there was any oil after this mod?
also what happens to the oils that may have been collected over the course of time b4 i had
the catch.... do they evaporate? or just stay there....hmmm mine is a 05 with 50k miles without the
catch can... thnx for the input

blow by gases pass through the PCV valve and then sent back to the intake for the engine to burn
I wouldnt worry too much. Truth is, you really dont even need one. But they do look pretty & make sense.
