I've read all these posts slowly and in sadness and disbelief. I little piece inside me feels lost. This is rough for us far and distant fans. I can't even image the horrible day you had. Wishing you all the best from here.
I commend your attitude to jump back in the ring and chase your passion.
Never even seen her and I feel like there is a family member missing.
What a ride, Big Red. What a ride! Whichever parts return to you, her spirit will continue . . .
 
Glad everyone involved is okay. I have an idea of what you're going through since I lost a highly customized ride to a drunk a few years ago. Since you mentioned a while back that you took out extra insurance for the customized parts then you should be in a better shape. If they're not going to pay you NADA book value for the total lost then they'll likely not letting you keep or strip the vehicle. As I recalled, they were only willing to pay for the value of the parts (no labors) minus some ungodly depreciation. Colossus handed down the final number in my case and no amount of complaining from me or my lawyer over 4 years did anything to change it.

Before continuing your legacy with another fx, talk to your shop about the existing warranty and see if it'll be transferable to a different vehicle. Most shops seem to void their warranty if you get into major accidents. Perhaps, now is the time to think about a different direction. I mean you did it. After much sacrifice in time and money, you have accomplished your goal and got your fx into the low 13's. I know I'm a voice of minority here but have you considered a ML63 or something similar as an alternative?

Visited the car yesterday and removed all my personal items. At the site of the accident, I flipped off my battery kill switch. At the yard I found they had removed the negative cable so I reattached it, flipped my kill switch and ejected all my discs.

I also turned the key on the ignition just for kicks. The motor turned over so I shut it down.

First round of insurance negotiations are complete. Without modifications, the car was totaled at 14,500. I submitted all my aftermarket parts receipts and I'll be happy with 50% of the total value of those parts. Then I'm buying the salvage, moving the FX to the shop that built it, and stripping it of all usable parts.

Some of those parts are going into my next build, some of them will be sold here on IS. The next build is still TBD. I do think I will be getting another FX, but will stick to NA mods on this one, lol.

My chest is still really sore and any time I laugh, sneeze or cough I'm reminded about the loss. Kind of blows but having these holiday vacation days to relax with the family is helping a lot.
 
If you don't mind me asking, what is the salvage value you will purchase the car at? Just curious to see what it's worth.
 
it's usually 10-15% buyback and they usually require sending the tittle into them for "branding", you'd get back a 907A salvage tittle. I think there only required to brand tittles on up to 8 year old cars, past that they don't even care to brand it because it's not required of them by law.

In order for the insurance to pay anything aftermarket, you would have had to disclose all the aftermarket parts right? And if you did disclose, then I would think you would be covered 100% of those minus depreciation?
 
Still painful on the FX level Brad, hurts on seven levels.....Glad you are convalescing with the woman of your dreams and your little one over the holidays.

Forget the troubles till next year. Then deal with them then.... That's the way I look at it
 
Wow, just read the updates to this thread. Sorry to hear about the accident and loss of the the FX. Glad to hear your ok. Hope your recovery is quick. Good luck on your next FX!
 
Man o man.....i'm still in disbelief....so do you have any idea what triggered the accident....or just to much water. Off course that but maybe the harder suspension.....how fast were you driving / accelarating....??
Is there any particular reason why you want to continue the FX in N/A outter then spending anyother fortune on it off course :wink (2):
 
The stretch of road has 30+ accidents per year, most when the roads are wet. I was going 45mph and changing from the center lane to the left lane. There was standing water on the left side and both my left wheels hit the water and hydroplaned - the car turned sideways. I tried to correct but once I broke traction, the car spun in a straight line off the right side of the road until hitting.

I don't think Im going to do this to an FX again because it is a custom job and so expensive. Plus - I'm thinking FX50S this time - so there are not a whole lot of FI options.
 
Ok clear and know what you mean........aint there yet myself either.....was kinda scarred to hear the our car at that speed go get into that so fast.....

But........there is still knowledge here :smile (2): Bradd you also had the Pathfinder water hose at the rear of your block. To that (oem) hose the tranny filling pipe was mounted as well. Did you make a new bracket for that pipe or just left it there staying by itself.
I mounted it yesterday and felt quite firm by itself but am affrai that when dryving there might come some vibration wich will shake it loose or such....
