JBAKER1121'S FX50 EXHAUST thread

I considering changing the exhaust up... stock muffler with electronic cutouts as opposed to a muffler delete.... doing research now.

Anybody have any experience with them?

Did some research on the LS1 forum and found that some prefer QTp but they only have a 90 day warranty..while DHM, which many people liked, comes with a 4 year warraty... http://www.dmhperformance.com/ecutout.htm

Some place them where the resonators are, some after the headers, etc. I guess I should do some research to see where the best place would be.

Random cold-start video from a few weeks ago that I forgot I recorded.

Pretty loud on cold start, video doesn't do it justice. Calms down after a few minutes of idling/warming up. This is after sitting for over 24hr.

if someone could embed for me that would be sweet

Hey the FX sounds nasty ...... wasn't expecting the factory pipes to sound like that. Are you getting a smile a mile? ;)

Wished I could hear it on my phone lol
lol

Thanks for the video!

Yeah al I have is iphone now - ran out of room on it so decided to upload. Was eventually going to make a full video for youtube.

Not factory pipes! Did a muffler delete w/straight pipes ;)

Man, that V8 sounds mean. I love that growl!

me too. wakes me up in the morning.

here's another video from this morning, from my second story apartment. Just to show the volume. Photobucket fucks with the quality so when I get it on youtube itll be better.

Again, this is after letting it sit overnight (In this case about 10 hours since I got home at 12:45)
If I've run it during the day it's not this loud until you let it sit a while.
I may get cutoffs near the mid just for fun... figured Im keeping the car anyway until 2015 may as well mess around a little.

I can't hear any audio from the iPad.

So you don't have any cats either?

What inch pipe did u use?

HD Tapatalked from iPad 3 using dictation

Sounds good, but I don't think I could handle it for too long.
I would like the stock FX50 to be just a bit louder but not that much.

I've heard this exhaust in person on Kenny's ride and it doesn't sound like a muscle car at all. It's loud but it keeps the stock exhaust sound.

remember that the sound doesn't change because your not putting on an exhaust. All your doing is cutting the muffler off and welding straight pipes on. An Infiniti V8 still sounds like an Infiniti V8. I'm not a fan of how loud it is but it sounds good and still sounds completely like stock. Just the noise is amplified more

When I was ride inside his before the sound intruded more than I would like though

Yeah it's not so much that "classic" v-8 muscle car sound - still has that infiniti tone in a way.

All I did was get rid of the muffler and run stock-sized piping instead. everything else is factory.

It does get a little bassy in the cabin if you leave it in Auto but I usually drive in tiptronic only because I like to pretend it's a sports car, and that way it really doesn't drone.

I may go for custom muffler action instead and get cutouts for when I want to be obnoxious.

New surprise in the exhaust department... got rid of 80% of the drone @ 2k rpm and most of the other drone... quieted it down overall but it still sounds excellent. Stay tuned....

What did you wind up doing after the muffler delete and straight pipe install? I'm considering performance cats w/ muffler delete similar to what you had originally done. Should be plenty throaty.

Can't wait to hear a solution to the drone. I can't stand to drive it on long trips b/c it's so loud inside the cabin.
