Issue with throttle and acceleration

Does anyone have the following issue ? I recently got my FX35 2010. However, I run into a strange issue with the throttle. This is the second time it happens. I was driving on a free way. Suddenly, the car starts to lose the acceleration even I press the gas pedal hard. It drops from 60mph -> 20mph. The engine makes a loud noise when I press the gas pedal. The RPM meter jumps to a high value. However, the car is not accelerating forward. I am planning to send it to the dealer, but this issue only occurs once in awhile. After I recycle the engine, it disappears, but eventually it will come back. It's very hard to diagnosis.

Any helps would be greatly appreciated.

Kenny N.

This happens to me too only when I drive it hard or during spirited driving on the highway or wherever. And I don't mean ordinary spirited driving. I'm talking about like an hour worth of redlining lol. It happens when I make the car downshift alot to make it do rev matching and the RPM needle is bouncing off the redline.

After driving hard the car no longer responds to the accelerator. It will move when i accelerate but it feels like the connection between the accelerator and motor and have been cut off. And when I do push the accelerator all the way to the floor since it won't respond the engine and exhaust make a very bad loud noise almost like the whole engine is bogging down and the motor is being rushed. It will return to normal once the car has sat for a while and has been restarted.

I never bothered bringing it to the dealer for it because its very hard to diagnose. Only happens once in a blue moon....

You guys are driving so fast that the gas can't get from the tank to the engine fast enough.

:tongue (2):

lol but seriously i wouldnt even bother to let the dealer try to figure it out. They would seriously have to drive the car hard for it to do that.

Oh one more time it did it before and that time I never drove the car hard. But I took it on a 10 hour 500 mile roadtrip and never shut it off the whole time or take a break and it started to not respond again on the highway. I though maybe the engine needed a break?? lol idk

Fire0nic3FX - Thanks for your response. I am glad that I am not alone. However, I did not recall that I drove it hard today, though a lot breaking and short accelerations due to the traffic.

Don't you think it's a bit dangerous if we lose the acceleration while we are on freeway. Sudden drop of acceleration would lead to accidence.

Yeah I can see it being dangerous. I just don't think my dealer would be able to produce it since it only happened a few times to me. Although it doesn't hurt to try.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the 7 speed transmission? Alot of people complaining about throttle delay related issues.

Sure . I will take it to the dealer and see if they have an answer for us. As for the throttle delays, I noticed that as well. However, I normally drive using DS mode so it doesn't bother me that much.

I notice that you are in New York. Do you know of good place that would install a remote starter ( using OEM smart key ) and radar ?

Contact Da mayor on here he will hook you up with a remote starter installed through the dealer. He works at Infiniti of Massepequa here.

By the way when you find out about the throttle issue let me know. If they find out whats causing it I will bring in mine too.

vnbuddy, your case sounds extreme...dropping from 60 to 20? Probably 3-5 times a week I notice this: I'll come to a stop in a turning lane, and then want to turn and after pressing the pedal, it's not going anyway and a 1-2 seconds later it goes like a mother****ker. But that 1-2 seconds of delay is scary because if the traffic is tight coming in the other direction then that could make the difference of being hit or not.

It's looks like the issue is that you press the pedal and the engine revs and tells the car it wants to go but then the car needs to think before it engages (maybe its the differentials thinking do I want to go AWD or not or maybe it's the trans computer trying to think or stuck in some while loop trying to figure out what gear it should go in). Once it figures it out and says OK, then it's almost like you are burning out because by then you have your pedal put down farther so you get thrown in your seat when it engages at a higher rpm.

The only thing I've noticed is that this happens more when the FX is on some sort of decline. Did you happen to be on a decline?

Our FXs measure incline/decline, etc because of the headlights among other things and I'm wondering if these calculations probably have a bug somewhere in the computer software.

Unfortunately, I'm thinking the only way that this is going to be resolved is if there are enough accidents and people report about this...kind of like Toyota and saying the brakes not working at times or some other issue. Then they would put enough resources on this issue to test and figure out where the most likely software bug is.

That doesn't sound normal.. Our mph should not drop like that while you're pressing the gas pedal. Almost sounds like a skipping clutch on a manual. Take it in and have them diagnose. At the very least have it recorded.

Aaron, I drove 13 hours straight on my FX on the hwy.. Your issue of the car not responding or getting tired shouldn't happen either.

I dunno too much about this issue but....
let alone if it stalls but going down in rpm and mph?
in an infiniti? thats something terribly wrong!!!!

Until today, I was able to find the time to bring my car to the infiniti dealer. When I explained the issue the service consultant, I was told that this is a known issue. After ~3 hrs of waiting, they re-programmed the transmission and promised that the issue should go away. It happens that there was another FX 35 owner checked in for the same issue. I will keep my eye on it for a couple of months. Hopefully, it will go away for good.
