To buy an extended warranty for electronics such as power seats, power windows, ac compressor, stuff like that.. its about $1800 for 2 years, but does that stuff really go bad? I have a 2004 fx45 with 72k

Please let me know what you guys think..

Personally, I wouldn't do it.

Most of these warrantees have a lot of outs. You should also add ip costs of those items and see if it's worth it.

When I bought my 2004 I paid the 1400 for the extended warranty just because I didn't know the car and wanted to be covered as repairs on our FX's can get very costly.
That being said I never needed to use it so it was just 1400 for peace of mind.

Just put that 1800 aside for repairs.

yeah, I bought mine... can't remember how much it was, but I ended up not really having to use it for anything. Well, actually before it expired, I took it in and complained about the sunroof being really loud... so they ended up replacing some of the mechanical parts (I guess it was worst than I thought, initially, I thought it just needed oil or something :dontknow: ). But I had to pay the $50 deductible.

BUT that said... I really don't/didn't drive my FX much.

^My experience exactly. Although, I did get mine with far fewer miles and now that I'm on approaching 75K miles I'm starting to wonder about some things. My windows have now "acted up" twice in the last year or so (sticking in hot weather) and the seat switches are pretty filthy again. Not that the switches being dirty is a covered issue but I do wonder sometimes how many times I will be able to disassemble them for cleaning before they give up entirely. I think another member here with higher miles (jumbosrule) had a problem with one of his seat motors that was pretty expensive... I can't remember now, you'd have to ask him.

I'd do some more research before I turned down the warranty and ask people in particular who have 30K-ish more miles than you do. Also heed PMG705's warning and go over the warranty literature with a fine toothed comb. The warranty you're looking at may not even be worth your consideration...
