I was at the dealer on Monday, and they recommend that I either flush the power steering fluid or atleast do a drain/refill. I was wondering if it's a better "piece of mind" thing to do? I took a look at the fluid in the reservoir and it's pure jet black. It really looks filthy too. I'm at 28K miles right now. I was thinking about having it done at 30K.

Oh and I'm going to have a 30K maint. done soon too. I was wondering if you could give me some suggestions on what to have done?

Here is the list I made:

Transmission drain/refill
Engine Coolant drain/refill
Lubricate Propeller shaft
Lube all hinges and locks
Adjust drive belt tension
Differential fluid drain/refill
Transfer case drain/refill????

Is there anything I'm missing or really shouldn't have to do at 30k?

I forgot to add that I only what the best for her, so price isn't the issue as I plan to keep this car for a very long time haha =]

well if it's filthy then why not do it..as far as your list goes, you could save up some time and do half of the work yourself.

wait a minute...i don't think it's necessary to change tranny fluid and differential fluid at 30k, i am a little skeptical about coolant flush also....

yes do a drain/fill for power steering. cheaper to replace fluid than to replace a failed power steering pump -- rare but still can happen.

at 30,000 you should do brake fluid too. Brake fluid is hydrophilic, so it will continue to absorb water from the air. It is good to replace even though it's not dirty.

If you plan on keeping the car for a long time, WD-40 or PB Blaster all the bolts and nuts. This will help a little in preventing rust and if you ever need to remove a bolt/nut, makes it that much easier.

You can also go over the bottom frame with some anti-rust black paint.... to prevent rust.
