iPod interface not working

Hey everyone,

I test drove a 2009 FX35. I brought along my iPod classic (120 GB) and iPod cable to check functioning. When choosing to search by artist, a list comes up and as you scroll down that list the display changes to large letters (A, B, C, etc...) and it would appear that when you stop on that letter it will display artists' names under whatever letter you stop on. Sounds like a great feature, however, this didn't seem to work at all. For example, if I stopped at F (to listen to the Foo Fighters for example) it would queue up Fiona Apple and then everything else that started with A, like AC/DC, Aerosmith, Christina Aguilera, etc... (Fiona Apple is alphabetized under A, not F, as are all my artists sorted by last name). It didn't seem to matter what letter I chose, it always brought up something at the beginning of my artist list, usually in the As and Bs. If I wanted to listen to Elton John and stopped at J, it would give me James Blunt and then everything else that started with a B (again, James Blunt is sorted under B). It seemed literally impossible to search for any given artist because as you start to scroll down the artist list it automatically defaults to searching by letter, which obviously wasn't working for me.

I drove another FX35 (a 2012) and it did the same thing. The salesman brought out his iPod shuffle and it also did the same thing.

This was a complete deal killer for me, on an otherwise fine automobile. Any feedback or comments would be very much appreciated at this juncture!!

Re-consider,,,,your ipod library,,,Fiona Apple?

Maybe I shouldn't have said "Any feedback or comments would be very much appreciated at this juncture!!" LOL

Seriously though? No one on the forum who happens to own a 2009+ FX and that uses an iPod is willing to help out?

Every stereo shop guy I've spoken with about ipod interfaces tells me that Infiniti is probably the worst auto manufacturer for interface.

Now that was for aftermarket stuff, but one even said the factory stuff can be inky.

Thanks.

I have a 2009 and an ipod, how can I help if this is the expected behavior? You tried it on 2 FXs...

It would be helpful to hear your experience with your iPod in relation to the problem I encountered.

Thanks.

I'll play around with it tonight, but I'll tell you the ipod menu system and searching functionality in our cars is one of the worst I've seen. Searching for songs and scrolling is a real bear.

Good luck....My aftermarket "iSimple" (or as I call it "iSucko") requires a degree from MIT to use properly. I really don't like it.

on a 2009, you can't go through the title menu very quick, with I believe 2010 or 2011+ you can go page by page or quicker I believe....I just remember it being different.

On a '10 the scroll by letter, while a real PITA when you have hundreds of artists, works as it's intended and stays on the first artist entry under whatever letter you stop on. To JD's point, there are also double arrows on the touch screen which allow you to scroll a page at a time. Not the safest option while driving though.
