iPad mount "project"

I'm not trying to persist an Asian stereotype here, but are you seriously singing karaoke in your car? :confused.:

Bumping an old thread for new discussion - anybody own the new Ipad Mini yet, or another 7" tablet?

I love my Ipad 3 but it was JUST too big to hang off the dash. Rarely got used even for Nav due to this. The Mini is the ticket. I ordered a new 4G mini and plan to use it for my radar detector and GPS displays, and of course for music.

Looked at Proclip mounts but they are either to the RIGHT of the center dash stack or on the left by the drivers door. Neither is ideal for me - I like the placement of the Note on the first page here. Very clean. Does anybody make a more solid mount for that location for a tablet?

I'm still considering proclip but not sure I want to spend $100 when its nto PERFECT in my opinion. Would love to see others' 7" tablet mounts....

It would be neat to have an IPad mount but it would be a pain removing and stashing it out of sight each time you park. If you left it in, it would be an open invitation for thieves.

If you mounted the outer case of the otter box then it would just snap in and out with ease.

I'm going one better...I've decided on a magnetic mount that's as easy as setting it down and picking it back up. I'm in the car for long stretches (3-4hrs) at a time on a regular basis. This would not make sense for a car around town.

The ipad mini weighs 11oz. I think a vent mount would hold it fine but I'm going In a different direction. Going to try to use the little "cut out" on the far left hand side of the dash. And I'm building a magnetic mount there.

Howdy all. Sorry for not participating in my own thread for... what over a year? :D I've redone my setup, no longer dash mounted and instead using a floor mount goose neck setup. I'll post pics soon. Works real well and frees up access to the dash (some obscurity but overall all controls are accessible. The mount itself will accommodate any tablet up to 11 inches. Currently sporting a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 in either portrait or landscape.

Cheers.

Ok, time for an update :)

My original mount was using a Proclip dash mount with an ipad mount attached. Frankly, while the Proclip is an excellent mount (I have the pillar mount now holding my Samsung Galaxy Note 2) it's not built for holding a 10" tablet. So it was time for some research.

I ended up going with a RAM mount combined with the existing Proclip dash mount (note this is the center dash mount specific to the FX). Here's the parts used:

RAM tablet mount (originally for iPad but works with my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 or any 10" tablet)
RAM adjustable floor mount (no drilling)
Proclip angled dash mount

What I ended up with was using the Proclip as a "secondary" attach point for the RAM tablet holder which makes the unit very stable while remaining adjustable in horizontal or vertical positions. I used simple velcro to attach the mount to the proclip on the dash.

The mount itself is adjustable in virtually all directions and the mount neck is also adjustable from the floor so there is a lot of flexibility.

The mount does not get in the way of passengers either.

Here's a few shots:

Reviving this one...anyone successfully install an Ipad Mini in the FX?? This is going to be my next interior project and I'm looking to see if anyone's
done it right. Would like it to look clean...and I think the mini is the perfect size.

Just in case anyone is interested in doing the iPad mount install on the dash this might help out. Doing some modification to the mount the possibility of installing one on our vehicles is possible. www.soundmanca.com
