I just did this install today, after letting this kit sit in my garage for a year. I got a decent fit with 5 cuts and 2 welds, which was pretty shocking given this and George's thread. Perhaps the fit comes down to inter-year differences? It could also comes down to impatience and grunt since I spent the whole day on my back under my FX (only had ramps, no lift).
My left tip points up into space (or at least the bumper) while the right sits nicely. That means I haven't finalized the tips yet, I will cut the leads back in order to set the tips under the bumper neatly. My tips are different diameters as well, one is 2mm larger than the other so there is quite a bit more play. Has anyone else seen that?
I did this mod having read this thread and George's and things went together very smoothly, especially as I've never done an exhaust before. Learning to weld for this didn't go smoothly (was going to MIG weld it, had a lot of issues with the line-feed jamming and killed a lot of time troubleshooting the tool), ended up hitting up a neighborhood welder up for a quick TIG weld. There is a touch-point with the rear u-joint heat shield as mentioned in these threads. I still haven't decided on a solution there but will probably go in with a hammer and chisel to give the space required. The touch-point is between the gasket flange and one of the ridges in the heat shield. At this point there is about 1.5 inches clearance inside the heat shield so plenty to dent the ridge or cut/drill out the area of contact. The more drastic trimming options outlined in these threads also do the job - but seem overkill when I'm looking at it.
I've gone just under 20 miles on it and haven't heard any rattle (also garage-stethascoped the whole system without hearing any leaks before driving down the ramps) but I'm still holding judgement until I've had a drive where I'm not afraid an old exhaust in the back is going to break out the back window or smash into the back of my head if I drive in a spirited manner.
