Hello, I'm Henry, and I joined yesterday. This is my first topic....(I hope it's not personal...):smile (2):
What do you pay for insurance on your FX?
I've received on line quotes from $63.00 (GEICO) to $315.00 (21st Century) a month. :bad::eek.: (2006 FX 45)
Talk about comparison shopping!
I thought it was cheaper when you got older.......

Geico sucks in general and 21st century which i have is not bad at all. It really depends on the insurance company how they rate each vehicle, the area you live in; plus your driving record. I wonder why you got a 315 quote, what was your deductible, collision/comprehensive plan? and etc?
I pay about 110 a month with 500 deduc, 100-300k plans with bunch of discounts associated with it.

U guys pay by month??

Ive normally done 6 month periods or full year on the motorcycle.

If u care about service, USAA and amica are rated the best in CS. U rate a company by how they handle claims, not price. Lowest price could be headaches down the road.

Its too many variables to compare quotes.

Insurance is dependent on so many things and is so location dependent that random quotes on an internet forum don't provide any value. ie, my rate would be different if I moved one county over. On top of that, some companies are better for certain types of cars, certain demographics, etc. So the only way to get the best rate for you is to get quotes specific to you.

I pay like $60 a month on the FX. It's like $360ish every six months and that's for $500 deductible and highest limit coverage. But I also have another car, homeowners, and some life insurance with State Farm. So I get all the multiline discounts.

Price varies on the above mentioned. I don't know what I pay as its all lumped together. I would try Liberty Mutual, if you put all your cars and you house with them and pay On a monthly EFT they are almost unbeatable. Also, depending on which state you live in believe it or not American Express sells car insurance and they are really competitive. Good luck!

The last time I got insurance I went to an office. Going back to my "quotes" last night, Geico quoted a rate with the minimum amount of coverage, hence the lower rate. When I upped the coverage and got the new quote it went from 60.00 to 151.00 a month. While 21st century was 315.00 a month I now see why.
BODILY INJURY 250K-500K
PROPERTY DAMAGE 100K
PERSONAL INJURY PROTECTION 25K
UNINSURED MOTORIST PROTECTON 100K
UNINSURED/UNDERINSURED MOTORIST BODILY INJURY 250K-500K
COMP 500.00
COLLISION 500.00
ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE 75.00 .... ADDS UP TO 315.00 A MONTH.
I THINK I CAN CHOP SOME OF THAT COVERAGE TO MAKE IT "AFFORDABLE".....

I'm with Geico with full coverage and a $250 deductible I pay $95 monthly. No accidents and no points on license. Age 28. I live 5 miles outside of downtown Baltimore and for the same coverage State Farm wanted $170 a month with a $500 deductible. I've never had any problems with Geico and found their customer service to be spurb!

AMEX is now Ameriprise and they can be competitive, but not nearly as competitive as they used to be. I was with the old AMEX starting in '01, they were the cheapest around. Then my rate crept up every year, not enough to worry about, but always up. Then in '08, my rate doubled all of a sudden. I called to ask for a reason and they said that since I had 3 "incidents" on my record, they moved me from a certain discount tier up to a lesser discount. I had no at fault accidents or speeding tickets so I asked what the 3 were. One was a hit and run, I filed the claim with them (supposedly not supposed to count and they said that it in itself didn't raise my rate, but it was still and "incident"). Second was a rear ending where other party was at fault and their insurance paid. Third and this is when I lost it - back in 1997 my wife got into a one car accident, lost control in rain, spun out, minor damage, and a ticket for something. The crazy thing is that back in 1997, I didn't know my wife, we weren't married, and we weren't even with AMEX yet they still counted it as an "incident" and invoked a 3 strikes rule. So basically 7 years of no accidents or tickets and they doubled my rates over issues they didn't pay out for and one of which was before we were even customers. It seemed incredibly shady. So I dropped them that day and found State Farm which surprisingly was half the price of what AMEX quoted me. FWIW, American Express spun off their insurance business so Ameriprise has nothing to do with AMEX the card company these days.

Now that 1997 one is way out of line for hitting on your rate. I thought insurance company only look at the last three years of your records. I would switch too. That's just insane reason to tag that on you!

Yeah, that reasoning was a total shock. They explained that for claims/accidents/tickets, they only go back 3 years or so. But they had a separate category for "incidents" that was also used to determine discounts and that dinged me. So they admitted that even though none of the claims were my fault, their data showed that I was more risky since I had bad luck...I live in the city so minor fender benders are a fact of life, it's why I already pay slightly more for my ZIP code. In the 6 years I've been w/ State Farm, I've had 4 not at fault accidents, and none of them raised my rate since I wasn't at fault. I asked State Farm if they used a similar system to Ameriprise and they stated absolutely not.

Good info Shadow, I was not promoting Amex in any way it's just that I lived in Florida for 15 years and back in the mid to late 90's thats who we had and it was cheap. We only switched to Liberty mutual because Amex didn't offer home owners, bottom line is insurance companies are crooks. There is a reason why you can go into any major city in the us and the largest building in the city is an insurance company! On another note, in regards to driving history my brother was in college and had his own car and own insurance and was in an accident. State Farm dropped my parents after 20 years because they said he had access to their cars because he lived in the same house!

I don't recall what company it is but I find it hilarious when I see the TV commercial showing the plug in for your car to report your driving habits to your insurance company to LOWER your rates! Yeah right, I would be dropped the first month or I would have to take out a second mortgage on my house to pay the premiums!
