Infiniti hit while parked. What are my options?

Hey Guys, my 2012 FX was parked at my sister's house last night. Legally parked on the street (a small, quiet court). One of the neighbours backed into the front end and messed up the bumper/chrome trim pretty good. I think it will be a matter of replacing the bumper. Nice thing is, the guy left a note. I did file a police report just to be safe.

My concerns are this:

1. He wants me to take it to "his guy" at Toyota. Yea right.
2. The car is leased, so does Infiniti not get the final say on what gets done?
3. Anyone dealt with a leased car getting whacked, and was Infiniti agreeable to deal with?

Any other thoughts or recommendations are welcomed. I'll get some pictures up as well.

Thanks!

That happened to me when the car was only 6 months old.
Take it to a few shops of your choice to get estimates, and get his insurance to pay. Make sure you have the name of his insurance, and Policy number and other particulars. I let my company deal with the other guys company.
Good luck.
The bad thing is your car has now been in a collision and it is devalued, even if they do use new replacement parts.

that cracked chrome you are talking about is actually the grille.. and if bumper isnt cracked or anything then your bumper will be painted and grill will be replaced

Another thing to note though is that the bumper is damaged on the body line curve which can sometimes make it difficult to repair especially plastic. A not so good bodyshop will slap a whole bunch of bondo in it. A good body shop would just recommend to replace the bumper.

My damage was much less than that and I made them put on a whole new fender and wheel lip molding. The insurance just wanted to repair it but I refused a repair, I demanded replacement with OEM parts.

i was parked in lower manhattan and when i got back to my car i saw the damaged. The person who did it left a note on my windshield with his number and paid for the damage. VERY RARE IN NYC!!!It cost about 150 to fix, great body shop in the bronx,[IM

That is indeed rare here in our area but great to hear that there are actually folks still out there who will admit fault !! That'll bring that person " good karma " ten fold just the same way it'll bring " bad karma " for those folks who simply drive away :at-wits-end:

When i contacted him, he seemed to be really sorry. he explained that he was making a broken u-turn while having his child crying in the back seat and his in-laws arguing, and it was about 9 p.m. and raining. (distracted) lol.

That's a bummer, sorry that happened to you! Yeah, new bumper cover and grille.

But if it's leased, why worry about it? You are gonna give the car back anyway so I wouldn't stress too much about a great body shop imo.

i think they would, i dont think aircanuck caould return it back to the dealer that way without penalty. and to have the dealer manage the the autobody work needed would cost an arm and a leg

Looks like we're going to have the bumper done at his expense. Infiniti seems agreeable, but we'll see what the story is when I return it at the end of the lease!

Thanks for the insight guys!

Keep us posted on what the outcome is. At the end of the day, it is a lease. Don't forget that some dealerships are willing to get you out of your lease early to get you into another Infiniti. So that being the case, you won't have to deal with it bothering you for too long! Good luck.

you can not be penalized for the vehicle being damaged while you have it on a lease, you can however be penalized for any improper repairs that need to be redone, or of course for any damage that is existing when you do return it. as long as the vehicle is repaired correctly and the vehicle is returned in such a way that it doesn't need to be repaired or re-repaired for resale then you're fine... there is no law saying you can't sustain damage on a leased vehicle and it happens every day
