Inconsistent Passenger Airbag Light on/off

Hey guys,

I'm new to the FX, and noticed that the passenger airbag light located next to the center top (by Bluetooth indicator/interior lighting) is not on all the time, it comes on and goes off, i do not have a passenger and its driving me crazy, is there a reason it is doing this or is there a known short/loose wiring somewhere, in the seat or in the overhead area where the bulb would be?

Thanks...

I noticed this once a few days ago. The light was on while driving and I thought it was annoying to look at. I thought it would always stay lit while driving with a passenger. Now the last two days it has been off. Comes on only at startup.

It other vehicles the pass airbag off is on when there are no passengers detected by the seat weight/load sensor to advise, that in a crash, pass airbag will not deploy!

My light comes on at random times, like when i come to a stop it will turn on, it's annoying and im not sure if its due to a loose wire someplace like the seat sensor or at the light bulb overhead, I just want to know if anyone knows how to fix it or what is the cause, as im sure it will be a universal thing!

Opps, I typed it wrong. I meant to say, I thought that light would stay on without a passenger in the front. That's why I was annoyed because I wouldn't like to see the light up there while driving alone. But the last two days it has been off. I'll have to pay more attention to the light and what its doing the next few days.

I'll check my light tonight, never paid attention to it. Have you check the connector under the seat? That's where the problem likely is. If it were more serious, the airbag warning light would come on in the cluster. Like if you just unplugged the connector, the dash would light up. But if it's just the on/off light, it's probably an issue with the connection or weight sensor.

Yeah, I am thinking the weight sensor as well, but not sure how much work it is to get to that sensor! And where its located on the seat area!

You mentioned that you don't have a passenger, but what about items on the seat? My light comes on when I put some moderately heavy items on the seat. Other than that, it stays off with the seat empty of people or things.

You mean the light is off when there is someone or something heavy and on if empty to light weight...but yeah makes no difference if anything or anyone is there or not!

Light off:
-No one in the seat and no items on the seat
-Adult sitting in the seat
-Very light items on the seat (small bottle of water, sheets of paper, sweater/jacket, hamster, bag of dried leaves, etc)

Light on:
-Small child in the seat
-Adult who isn't sitting properly (leaning on the window, perched on the front edge, raised off the seat)
-Moderately heavy items on the seat (Gallon bottle of water, backpack full of books, groceries, etc)

Although this reply concerns the G35 it fits in this thread as well:

My friend went to the dealer who inspected the fault and came to the conclusion that it was not DTC code 1022 in case of the recall. but next:

answer:
"The failure that emerges is the fault code DTC B1018 (occupant
sens unit fail)
This is a sensor in the seat of the chair right which senses if anyone is sitting on the right passenger seat

From one of your mails to us, you thought there might have been a recall
of Infiniti, which also refers to the interference.
We therefore have the cable / connector and the sensor measured with special tools/measurement of Infiniti Europe (Switzerland) to tracet his error.

This measurement is performed at our office in Amsterdam.
These measurements showed that there are no deficiencies that lead to the
failure of the recall.
In the bulletin of the recall is stated that it is a DTC code 1022
which will be referred to the same component but not the same fault
is.

Furthermore, we have attempted to correct the interference by unplugging the
occupant sensor under the RH seat connect three wires directly
by soldering, unfortunately without result because the error keeps coming back.

Our final diagnosis is that the fault of the occupant sensor, which
in the seat of the chair seat intrigued RV's, this means that the
entire seat portion of the RH seat must be replaced.
Further information shows that when the occupant sensor is replaced,
the diagnosis sensor unit named the ACU must be replaced.

The cost of the chair frame plus sensors is 5345.78 euros and replace
diagnosis unit 1,045.44 euros VAT included (these components are currently
not in stock at Infiniti)
Incidentally, this is excluding installation costs.

I added a description of the diagnosis and DTC B1018"
End of quote

So that can cost a lot of money.
However I read there is a replacement seat sensor pad that can be installed in the seat cushion in stead of replacing the whole seat cushion.

Thanks for the update, would love to see what the seat sensor looks like as well as its components, as that would give ideas as to how easy it is to adjust, if its simply a pre-load adjustment that can be adjusted by a stiffer spring or a bent flat surface of the seat.
