In the market for FX purchase

after looking at every single car possible in my price range, ive narrowed my search to an FX.

i wanted to get some feedback from current owners on this forum of all the pros and cons with the FX. ive never owned an Infiniti or Nissan so im a serious newb to the market. anything from regular scheduled maintenance and parts to the availability of aftermarket parts.

currently, i drive a Honda S2000 but im not only limited to space but also parts.

thank you in advance for all the help and hopefully i will be an FX owner soon.

Welcome to IS!!

You'll love the FX.. It's performance,space and reliability is outstanding. It won't be as fast or perform like a S2000 but it is the nicest XUV

Soft rotors? I don't know, mine seem pretty hard, they are made out of metal though.

when you have to get your brakes pads replaced, are you able to shave your rotors or do they need replacing also?

i only ask because i heard that 350z's have soft rotors. i know the fx isnt the 350 but there are a lot of similarities with 350, fx35, g35

Rotors are pretty good OEM for the 04 FX. I had my rear rotors turned down twice over 95,000 miles and replaced them for the first time less than two months ago, with an aftermarket kit. The fronts were replaced around 60,000 miles and then again when I did the aftermarket kit. That's twice in 95,000 miles - and I didn't completely use up the second set of rotors, front or back. (FOR SALE) :wink:

If you plan on performance modifications, you can always upgrade the rotors/brakes. But if you plan to drive the stock FX, the OEM brakes/rotors are your best bet, IMO.

Coming from an S2000, the FX will give you a similar driving position in the sense that it's not a truck wheel, and it will tilt down pretty low, and the seats are supportive. Nowhere close S2000 territory, but not bad.

The 45 does 0-60 in about 6.5, but it doesn't do it with as much fanfare. No screaming 9k redline, just exhaust note, and a whole lot of movement. It's impressive for a heavy vehicle.

It corners pretty flat as well, but it pushes, as to be expected, but the body roll is kept to a minimum. Ride is harsh (I have an '03), but still soft compared to the S2000.

I traded in because I needed a backseat for a carseat, and I was going from two cars to one. I didn't want to sacrifice the usability of the jimmy, but I still wanted the go-fast from the S2000. The FX is where I ended up.

The G35's are slightly soft but the wear factor was a trade off for solid sport car style braking ability, comp tests found them hard to beat. the FX's are tight and hold up really well (that's just from my research, my miles are still too low at 26K and I have yet to get into any major brake work) jumbosrule is on it.

nice, thank you for all the feedback.

2 more questions... hows the gas on the 45? i can read the estimated that everybody provides but thats no where near real life driving situations

last question... is there a certain yr of fx that i should stay away from or a certain yr that is better then another yr? i was looking at a 2005 FX35 w/ 48k miles for $22 but i also see 2007 w/ lower miles but a few grand more. i know the newer models will have little things different but is it really worth the extra $3000.

im pretty set on the FX purchase. i think from all the features that the FX provides it'll give me what im looking for (space, performance, suspension, reliability, etc). also enough trunk space for a system and the option to go FI in the future

06 got quite a few updates, the interior is much improved along with the electronics, the body got a few nice trim updates... if you have the choice, 06 & up is the way to go...

Just keep in mind -

45 = no engine mods.
35 = plenty of mods.

Assuming you wanna tinker with it.

2006+ has some nice features and I agree w/Psicine on the MOD point. I roll a 45 and while I like what it has now there is not much you can do for big power. Possibly more will become available down the road but for now manufacturers have sunk their tooling into the 35.
