Ignition Problem!!!

Oh NO! It happened again yesterday. It took me 5 seconds to start my car yesterday morning, and it started very sluggishly this morning. I think there is more than a throttle body issue. I talked to the Nissan Master Tech (carguy1) at Justanswer.com. He is quite sure that it is the fuel pump issue. He thinks that the fuel pressure is not being kept during the night, so the fuel is draining back into the tank in the morning or after a long parking. Any recommendations or thoughts from you guys??? I'm about to go CRAZY! I'm taking back my car to MV Infiniti next Tuesday to solve this issue.

Ya I'm still havin the issue with starting my car as well. It still happens at different times and I switched both my I keys. My thoughts are the fuel pump or one of my other buddies said that it could be the car battery but I'm not quite sure anymore either. I was really hoping that you issue was solved so I could fix mine lol. Well if you find out what it exactly is please let us know. Thanks alot

haha, that just needed to be cleaned really, but they made infiniti pay for a new one, not that that's bad for you  but it's still doing it, that's strange... guess it could be a fuel issue too, maybe theres a checkvalve that's not doing it's job?

I got a call from MV Infiniti. They were finally able to duplicate my problem this morning. They said that the fuel injection is flooding one of the cylinders. They will change all six fuel injectors (one for each cylinder). I hope this does it. They will change them and leave it for couple of more days to see if it happens again. I will update you on my problem...

Thanks for posting that up, Im looking forward to seeing if that is the issue, Im almost at 51k on my FX and hoping that this all gets figured out before I hit 60k and lose my warranty, Thanks again

After a couple weeks of the throttle body being replaced, the hesitating start up is back. The first crank will crank forever and the second crank isn't a smooth crank.

I went to 2 autozones in my area and had my car battery checked out by both places and both times the machine said bad battery. I was a little confused because the battery seemed fine to me, it cranked fine and I didnt notice any dimming in the lights or anything at all, but I said to myself if both places said that the battery was bad then I might as well just try a new battery, it only cost 75.00 from walmart, I bought the Everstart Maxx with 800 cold cranking amps and 640 cranking amps. I had them use the big machine that they had to roll out to check it, not the hand held one. All in all I installed it 3 days ago and I havent had any issues starting it at all yet, knock on wood. I would suggest going to an autozone if you have one around there and just get your battery checked, its free and its worth a shot. Ill post back up in a week or so to let you guys know if it is still starting up fine. My car was having issues starting up almost every other day. Im still waiting on mhkeyemd to post up and see if the injectors were the issue in his fx.

I just picked up my car from MV Infiniti. They replaced all my 6 fuel injectors last Saturday. They got P0300 (random misfire) code when they duplicated my problem. Their tech stated that all of fuel injectors were leaking down in all cylinders. After replacing the fuel injectors, they let my car sit until this Tuesday. They said that it started fine on Tuesday morning. Then, they let it sit until this Thursday (2 more days of sitting). Again, they said it started fine. So, I picked up my car this afternoon. So far, it starts okay and drives well. If the problem starts again, I think the only other possiblity is the fuel pump issue. Cross my fingers...Hope this is it... I'll let you guys know if it happens again. I heard about the battery thing before, but I don't buy that explanation. I'm not a certified mechanic, but the battery is either dead or live. It usually doesn't work every other day or in the morning only. I think you should take it to the Infiniti dealer. You only have 51K on your mileage. Anything that they need to fix will be free! I don't trust autozone guys. What kind of certifications do they have when it comes to Infiniti? Good luck!

CRAP! It happened again this morning. I'm not making this up! This is freakin' crazy!!! I'm taking my car back in today. At this time, I think there is only one possibility for this problem. I think the fuel pressure in the morning is not adequate to start it right away. It could be from fuel pump, some relay issue, fuel filter, ... Who the hell knows??? I'll let you guys know when they figure this out. I think I will have a new car by the time I correct this problem since they are changing everything (throttle body and all 6 fuel injectors). At least, Mission Viejo Infiniti is willing to work with me. They are very accommodating! Jerry from the service center is great. He can't believe this crap either.

are u getting any lights on the dashboard?
my 2003 fx35 started having almost the same problem this week.
it starts after 5-6 seconds of cranking and gives me the three lights on the dashboard -

service enigine, slip and VDC off.

today it just decided to shut off right on the freeway. i had to go to the curb. reinserted the key and started the car after again 5-6 seconds of cranking sounds.

does anybody think its a factory recall?

p.s it does look like its a camshaft sensor or the TPS.

I'm no mechanic, but I am still thinking fuel pump. Ask to see if they will check it out. Mine stalled on the highway too, but did not restart. had to get it towed. Fuel pump was replaced under warranty at around 67k miles or so. good luck man.

I'm not getting any lights on the gauge panel. Again, mine happens randomly. I talked to the Infiniti tech @ MV Infiniti on Saturday about the situation. He said that he checked the fuel pressure while he was changing the fuel injectors, but it seemed okay to him. Anyway, he now thinks it probably is from the fuel pump as well. Once my car starts, it runs fine all day and starts fine all day. For some reason, I think there is an intermittent fuel pressure inadequacy especially after a long parking. Since fuel pump, fuel injection, and other engine related problems are under the powertrain warranty (6yrs/70K), you should have them checked out before you lose your warranty. I really think there are some inherent weaknesses in the ignition system in Infiniti. Recall? I hope so if this is as common as I'm hearing @ InfinitiScene.

Sorry to hear that you're still having issues with your fx man. Mine was having issues starting up pretty frequently and it was getting ridiculous not knowing when it was going to start or not. Kind of embarrassing when people would look over and watch when it took a couple times. Like I said in my last reply, I replaced my car battery a week ago and haven't had the issue yet. I even let is sit for a couple of days because I went to NYC and when I came back, it started right up with no hesitation. I agree with you about people at autozone not being certified working on infiniti's but it doesn't really take a genius to hook up a positive and negative to the battery and the machine saying bad battery from 2 different places. I'm no professional mechanic either but I do always work on all of my vehicles. For the others that have lights that come on your dash, you might have a bigger issue than mhkeyemd and I. mhkeyemd, you and I have the same exact issue, yours could be a fuel issue but mine was my battery. Hopefully you solve your issue soon because I know that it can be pretty friggin frustrating. Let us know how you make out man.

I'm glad that some of you guys figured out your problems. Well, I just got a call from MV Infiniti that they are going to change the fuel pump since they changed everything but that. I hope this is it... I heard of the camshaft sensor issue from other sources. I thought someone said it was more common on 2003 G35 coupe, and I believe there was a recall for that. Also, I thought I heard them say "service engine soon", "slip", and "VDC Off" come on the panel when this happened. Anyway, good luck with your fix. I'm not too proficient with mechanical work, so I hope someone helps you out. My car gets no warning lights and runs fine after it starts. Maybe, Nissan 3.5 V6 engine is too "sensitive"?
