... what I was buying when 2 days ago I picked up my 2003 Infinity FX45 Premium with 28k miles. I thought I was buying a well-designed SUV with AWD with a DVD player in the back. I had no idea this was a fairly serious performance-oriented sports car cloaked in an SUV body.
I've only driven it about 6 times in the past 2 days and each time it seems just a bit meaner than the time before. About 4 years ago I sold my 2000 BMW M5 with DINAN options (475 hp) and to be honest, the FX45 does not feel all that different, except the DINAN exhaust was the sweetest sounding exhaust I've ever heard. Today, I started playing with the impressive manual transmission.
Like with the M5, when I get out onto the street after work I'd punch it and now I find myself doing the same thing again and with similar excitement.
This car was intended to be my wife's car while I drive an old Ford Expedition. She was glad to never drive the M5 (so was I) and we just sold her 2009 Ford Flex (excellent all round vehicle). What the frick am I supposed to now? The FX45 seems just a little too engaging and perhaps even too tempermental for her. This week she's driving the Expedition and I suspect next week too.
In college I owned a beautiful silver '77 280Z and ever since I've had a certain respect for Nissan's sports-oriented products.
Anyway, it appears to be a well-engineered vehicle and loving it so far. Already looking at improved aspiration opportunities and potential tweaks.
Apparently I can't post pics yet but it's grey with black interior and chromed FX45 wheels and very clean with a few discreet rashes here and there
To be honest, I wasn't prepared to dive back into a sports car at this juncture and get all emotional, etc, but here we go again. What a nice surprise.
