how to polish the silver roof rails

I've been snowboarding a lot this season...so I finally finished the season and planning to detail the car.... that's when I noticed the marks on the roof rails. =T

I have been using Meguire's Plastic X on any painted plastic part on the car, including the roof rail end caps. Little bit of elbow grease, but it works great. Used it on the side view mirrors, the black trim around the windows, the roof trim (bars under the rails are plastic) and of course the headlights and wind deflectors.
The bottle states it is for clear plastic, but I got the recommendation from another site and these guys have been using it on color plastic with no side effects. Where oxidation (white haze) is visible, the product might actually pull some color off the car (comes off on the rag). But after finishing the polish - it looks perfect.
