How to obtain trouble codes??

I got my first "service engine soon" light last night… Depressing with only 32K miles, I know..

I read and was able to get into the self-diagnose screen, but I’m not sure where to go to get the trouble codes? I’m hoping to make an appointment with my local dealer soon, but know what is wrong would make me sleep better.. lol

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You won't find it in that diagnostic menu. That menu is reserved for electrical issues in the car like the AC, radio, camera, etc. Ignore those error codes you see on the diagnostic menu. They really mean nothing.

You need to use an OBDII code reader. If you don't have one or know anybody with one, you can take it to Autozone and they will read the code for free. Just don't let them clear the code as it's the dealer's job to figure out what's wrong.

Thanks for the info.. My colleague at work has a scanner that I am borrowing this weekend.

I'll report back with the code..

I also found this - going to check both air filters at lunch.
I replaced OEM filters with K&N's 1-1.5 years ago.

DTC No. P1421

Trouble diagnosis name
P1421 Cold start emission reduction
strategy monitoring

DTC detecting condition
ECM does not control ignition timing and engine
idle speed properly when engine is started with
pre-warming up condition.

Possible cause
• Lack of intake air volume
• Fuel injection system
• ECM

Just updating this thread incase anyone else ever gets this error code.

I just got back from the dealer and they basically flashed the ECM like suggested.

I also got a blue tooth flash and maps update too.

Thanks again for your help.
