How to clear the Engine light from dash

Hi I am just wondering if there is a way to clear and engine light on the dash without an Analystic tool.
It first came up and the car went into limp mode so I went to my mechanic who used the tool to tell me it was the boost hose on the turbo that needed replacing which I have done. I took it back to him and now even with the tool the code wont clear.
I have tried disconnecting the battery and turning on any switch which may hold residual current and left disconnected from the battery for 15 minutes.
Still the code remains and the car is still in limp mode.
Any suggestions

Try disconnecting the battery and pumping the brake a couple of times. Doing that should remove current left .
 
Thank you for your reply - I was able to locate the problem which turned out to be a faulty Sensor in the DPF filter which was causing the fault light to come on.
Have one on order now. Thankfully it has come out of limp mode and I once again have power back. THanks again for your reply
