HOW TO: Cipher +2 Timing Advance

maybe it had the ecu replaced so it screwed something up?

Have never had any problems with ECU and have only done minor mods (LMS and strut bar) that shouldn't cause any ECU problems. I have not noticed any problems with my car since taking it out of storage either, but wonder if it sitting there for so long might of had any impact on wiring/connections etc.

Damn, was looking forward to having the +2 done too! Hopefully there's a simple solution to this problem.

EDIT:
checked on the Uprev site and found this...Cipher supports most Nissan/Infiniti vehicles from 2003–2007. 2007 vehicles with the HR motors are not supported at this time, but will be in the near future.

Hmmm...wonder if it doesn't work cuz mine is an '08? Any members with +2 on an '08??

I think that was what happened to VanFX's 06. Exact the same situation.

thats weird.

did you us the cd for the software or did you download it? I downloaded mine and had no issues other than waiting for temps to come DOWN

I tried both the software in the CD and the version that Jeff posted in the link. None of them work.

That could be possible. I thought your FX is the 06. I guess that there is no solution for the timing bump for 08 at this moment. Aya who has a 08 45 experienced the same thing. You should probably check with the dealer when you go there do your next maintenance. Meanwhile, I will send the cipher to the next guy tomorrow afternoon. If you feel like giving it another try, let me know.

I sent Uprev an email inquiring about compatibility with '08s and will report back when I hear something...no point in meeting up again until I get a response from them. If I don't hear back from them on Monday morning, please go ahead and send to the next member on the list.

Nice to meet you and Brian yesterday and look forward to more 604 get-togethers in the future!

if your car dies or if you change the battery

would the +2 retard back?

I believe +2 will stay doesn't matter of ECU reset or battery pull.

Nice to meet you too. Let's go out from some more 604 meet next time.

UPDATE: 08 FX timing is adjustable!!!

VanFX has contacted Uprev. According to the suggestion, I upgraded the firmware for the cable. The cable now has firmware dated: Oct, 20, 2009. We connected the cable and tried again. The ECU was found and we have adjusted the timing successfully!!! This is done a 08 FX35, US model with Sport and Full package.:.smile:

Having this done successfully made my night!

We had updated software the other day but I guess not the updated firmware for the cable...hopefully this solves Aiya's issue as well. Uprev responded just in time for me to call up White_Hair and arrange a quick parking lot meet at the mall just before he was going to send out the cable! Thanks again to White_Hair for handling everything from figuring out the install with his laptop to taking care of the payment and mailout!

And of course, many props out to thefx45beast  for hooking everyone up...it's awesome knowing that fellow members are so willing to help each other out! I'll buy u a beer the next time u r in Vancouver.

It definitely feels smoother acceleration, more power and torque. It's not an imagination. I feel it the difference clearly, since I have been driving my FX for over 6 years and pretty much everyday. :.smile:
