Remove and install the right drive shaft
1) Lift passenger front wheels with jack and support the car with jack stand.

2) Remove the passenger side front wheel.

3) Remove the wheel sensor harness from the clips on the strut assembly.

4) Remove the brake line lock plate and then remove the brake line from the strut assembly.

5) Remove the cotter pin from the axle.

6) Remove the 32 mm axle nut with power tool or break bar with jack handle bar or pipe slip onto the end of the break bar for leverage.
Note: if you don't have power tool to remove the axle nut, you may want to break lose the axle nut before jack up the front wheel.

7) Remove the two 22 mm bolts to separates the knuckle from the strut assembly.

8) Separate the knuckle from the strut assembly. Be sure to use wood block to support the knuckle assembly. You may also want to remove the brake caliper and rotor for easier to get at the drive shaft.

9) Slide the outer end drive shaft off the hub.

10) Use a pry bar at the inner end of the shaft to pry the shaft off the drive shaft off the front final drive assembly. It takes quite a bit of prying at different spot along the end plate. See the red arrow in the picture below where to stick the pry bar to.

11) Install the new drive shaft back in into the front final drive assembly carefully so that the spline on the shaft can mate up with the spline on the final drive assembly. Once you feel that it slide in smoothly, use rubber mallet to tab the outer end of the drive shaft to secure the drive shaft into the final drive assembly.

12) Slide the outer end of the drive shaft back onto the hub.

13) Reassemble the knuckle back onto the strut assembly and tighten the two 22 mm bolts to 134 ft-lb.

14) Reassemble the brake line and wheel sensor harness back onto the strut assembly.

15) Re-install the 32 mm axle nut and tighten it down to 203 ft-lb.

15) Re-install the cotter pin.

17) Re-install the wheel, lower the car and test drive.

Thanks! About to attempt this due to discovering a pinhole leak in the inner boot while replacing the strut. Easier to do the axle rather than the boot by itself...I think...
One question - after looking with the strut off, how in the neck do you get a pry bar back into the area where the axle joins the main drive?? It seems buried pretty far back and surrounded by frame and other objects. Given that everything else in my 2004 Fx45 has been stuck with corrosion, lol (strut bolts, sway bar link bolts, bearing assembly bolts, etc), I could see this being a nightmare to pry out.
What am I missing?
Thanks for any instruction or insight!
