How reliable has your 2nd gen 2009+ FX35/50 been?

Miles- 35,000

Catalytic converters- replaced twice (once 6 months ago, then this week)
Driver side camera- replaced at 34,000
Transmission flash- 3x (one time the car had to be towed in)
Driver side front speaker- replaced at 32,000

I have the clinking noise, but it's not obnoxious or anything. I can hear it after I park in my garage, but it's not like I'm then sitting in my garage thinking I hear a clink gosh that bothers me. I figured it's just from the heat, no?

I don't think I hear it when the car is running, only after I park in my garage for maybe a minute or two....although like I said I'm not in my garage long after I park.

I am still searching for my FX and am torn between the later 1st gen models vs the 2nd gen models. It seems like the 2nd gen may have issues that the 1st gen never had.

For those who own, or previously owned, a 1st gen FX and now have a 2nd gen, how would you rate the overall quality of the 2nd gen FX in comparison to the 1st gen (looks not included)?

Yeah I want to see what members have to say about this bc I have an 08 FX35 and I'm looking at a 09 FX35 with 23k miles. I love how the 09 cam with paddle shifters. But just not sure if I want to go for it. plus it's black on black

I have not owned an FX before but I have purchased an 05 G35X sedan and a 07 G35X sedan new in the past and my FX has had less issues than my two AWD sedans.
My 09 FX has been absolutely great since I bought it new. I'm still loving it.

update
2009 fx50s with 32k
1.The wood on the drivers door is peeling off (will replace at the dealer at next vist)
2. Was having hard down shifting (did reflash)
3. Outside mirrors shaking while driving (fixed at dealer)
4. Dealer wants to replace steering column (will do it at my next vist)
5. engine knocking sound while accelerating low rpms (never put anything but 93 octaine from name brand gas stations will have the dealer look at it at my next vist)

dwaynedadon,
1, 2, and 4 are known TSBs and completely covered. 3 is known issue too, but very easily fixable and ever since tightened, never needed it again.

5 is new to me....keep us posted what they find as this is very interesting. You might be hearing the injectors, but that is typical on our rides. Maybe have a video we can help diagnose?

all the work was covered ...i will be going for an oil change very soon so i wiill keep you guys updated ....I never had that sound before it started about a month ago it sounds like i put bad gas in. ill try to get it on video.

18k miles, Navigation update taken care of along with first oil change. The SES light came on a couple of times within a couple of weeks of purchase which threw me into panic, but it turned out I wasn't tightening my gas cap up enough when refueling. Otherwise, no issues whatsoever...(knock, knock)

I seriously cannot believe Infintis still have the squeaking seat and console problems. My 2003 M45 does it and there's been countless reports of people with other years and models having the same problem.

2009 FX50S / 12k Miles
Outside rear view mirrors shaking, took it to dealer, fixed N/C plus free oil change and wash!
Thats all!

2012 FX50 / 58k km's
- Passenger window not operating from the driver side (Dealer replaced the main switch on driver side)
- Passenger seat leather is dry (DIY leather Baulm, came back good)
- Driver Vent seat making noise (Will ask them to look)
- Break Squeal (like lots of FX, would need to clean them probably)
- Driver door stuck ( I think it's the remote starter that my FX might have seen as a thieft?)

Otherwise, it's a damn good car.

Same quality IMO. Had an 05 FX35 from 07-3/11 and 09 FX50 from 3/11-present

My Extended Warranty just expired at the end of 2015.... so, here were my "issues" over the last five years

Only "issues" i've had with my FX50 have been covered under warranty and fixed by dealer:

(in order of occurrence, as far as I remember. I do not think there were many more but I am picky and if something was up I tried to get it fixed)

0) OEM 21" wheels had pitting around center caps, had the whole set of wheels replaced under warranty.

1) Side mirrors shake at highway speed (known issue) ; Fixed by dealer under warranty

2) Transmission reflash TSB due to "searching" and some rough shifts at low speeds ; Fixed by dealer under warranty

3) "D/DS/+-" sensor on my shifter went out. Would go into D but not over to DS/+- ; from "aggressive shifting to DS"; Fixed by dealer under warranty.

4) Front OEM AERO lip fell off of car while driving at speed - Dealer replaced and installed under warranty (they installed it initially)

5) Axles needed to be lubricated due to "noise" when engaging gear at low speed - done by dealer under warranty

6) Part of my cooling system on the front of the engine had a pinhole leak, I think the 'water outlet gasket"- due to the cold buffalo temps apparently.. Under warranty

7) TSB Steering column, done by dealer and covered by warranty (with 3 free alignments afterwards because they didn't get it right the first times)

8) Sunroof moving much more slowly, motor replaced by dealer under warranty

8) Center console cupholder folding wood cover won't stay closed, $2 plastic part broke, covered under warranty and will be put in by dealer.

I think that is all. The Cupholder piece just came in.

Other than those warranty items, the FX50 has really been a solid car. I take care of it, meticulously maintain it, keep it clean, but also drive it like the sports-focused crossover it was meant to be. Even with my playing around with the exhaust tuning etc. I have not had any issues.

Only thing that comes up is in the dead cold winter, I'm talking 20deg and below, the battery seems to die quickly and needs a slight jump just for the V8 to turn over. I had the dealer go over the entire battery system, alternator, test for parasitic draw, etc. etc. they had the car for days. No issues came up. I've been through the original infiniti battery and 2 duralast batteries since 2011. (i'm on the 2nd duralast) The Buffalo winters are what got to me the most, as far as issues like surface rust on the undercarriage, the battery being dead multiple times, the cooling gasket leak, and I'm guessing the axles needing to be lubricated also have something to do with 2 winters in Buffalo.

other than that, I truly do love this car and despite wanting to sell it to the right future buyer, I will gladly keep it til it dies.

Just hit 55k miles.....

Got the Battery issue :) but here its temperature is mostly -35 to 10(F) during winter.. So i guess i'll take a membership for battery replacement :P
