How much gas when the light comes on?

Hey guys

Sorry if this is the wrong area.

I looked through my owners manual and did a search on this sight and I can't seem to find this info. When the low level fuel light comes on, how much gas is left in the tank? Like on my xterra, it was just under 2 gallons.

The reason I ask is that the est miles left to empty is so erratic when you hit the low fuel warning. I go from 35 miles left to empty to like 7 in just a couple of miles. Then to 2, then 1 and then 4 * (dots).

Not really.. It's only a few mpg less on the 50.. Common misconception.

one time after my light came on i drove ten miles to a gas station .....and it took a lil over 22 gals...i dont know if that helps.

I did about the same, the OP is definitely right though that the estimater is pretty erratic once the light comes on.

You should have between 1-2 gallons of gas. Most fx drivers average less then 20 MPG so under 40.

Pretty bad idea to do this all the time, you suck up all the possible dirt and etc sitting towards the bottom of the tank. Its a lot more concentrated.
