Horrible A/C Smell

anyone else deal with that?
It's been hot here in LA recently and it smells like a damn fart when you power it on. its embarassing lol

HELP!!

Stop Eating Beans ......

Seriously, sounds like your condensate drain may be partially plugged and water is standing in the drip pan under the evap coil. The standing water will cause a funky smell. Check under the carpet on the passenger side to see if it's wet, if it us there's your problem. Also check your cabin filter.

To minimize the funky smell after using AC, this is what you do:

- When you are close to making your parking, press the AC button so its only the fan running.
- You can blast the fan at this point to blow out all the condensation.
- When you finally park, keep the fan blowing (without AC) for a little while then turn off the engine.
- Next time you turn on the engine, you should have less of the funky smell.

I don't eat beans lmao and I'm checking the cabin filter now. My carpet isn't wet either and I have my AC torn apart right now. That fan is no joke I turned it on to see how strong it was and Holy crap it's fast

I've tried that as well and same thing. It's random and comes and goes. It's not a constant odor.

Tchuck has used some kind of spray foam cleaner to blast thru the vent tubes and clean it all out. I have no idea what thread I read this in, but maybe someone else will remember. Or, maybe the master himself will see this and shed some light.

I have the same thing in mine. Every time I take it in they replace the filter. I know its the drain...just have to figure out how to get under there and clean it out myself.

 I was all over looking for that discussion as well and can't seem to find it. Master Tim, where the heck are you.

I wonder how Infiniti does it, they offer the service to clean the A/C...I'll ask my buddy and see what he says...

Also try not to run on recirc too much. It tends to make the buildup and smell worse. I had the smell issue once and realized that I had been using recirculate all the time. After cleaning it out, I pretty much stopped using it unless driving by factories or the like and haven't had issues since then.

I recently just started to get this smell. All I use is recirculate cause it's colder. I guess I'll clean it and see what happens.

Had that funky smell you described for a roughly a month and it went away. Basically stinks like bad feet when you start the car.

AC evaporators tend to get mold build up on them. While the car is running and AC blasting, take a can of Lysol (or generic equivalent) and spray it down into the AC air inlets at the cowls near the windshield wipers. May take a can or two and may need to do it once or twice a year.

Im almost always on recirculated air. I need to repsray it again because the smell is back with a vengeance

Do you guys know where the evaporator drain hose is located on the FX (09+)? I've tried searching underneath the car (by the passenger side and where the A/C condensation was leaking) but couldn't find it...

i've used einszett klima and lubegard kool-it (via center dash fan & the blower beneath the cabin filter) but it only masked the smell for about a week or two...i want to try shooting the foam directly into the hose but can't find it....
