HKS GT Supercharger Kit

why couldn't there have been more options back when I was gettin my stillen.. :frown:

what kept me away from the jwtt is that it just has TOO much potential.... I mean I don't think anything would make you want to stop at the stock block at that point... I was afraid that the jwtt would automatically force me to want a built motor soon after.... I really think that something that kinda maxes out in the same range that the motor maxes out is a better fit to me... that would be one plus to this unit:smile:

the jwtt at vinny ten was close to 9K when I spoke to him, what did he tell you for it?

This question is probably for jbaker but Paul (Advance Race Tech) & Scott (Ballistic) in NH do it for $8000 installed. I try to convince myself NOT to get one each day.. (No Ege.. You just sold your turbo Ege.. Don't be stupid, you don't need that much speed, Ege..)

yeah.. Not to get JWT, not to get Stillen, not to get that used STS kit on my350z, not to get Vortech.. Man I want it so bad but I KNOW I shouldn't

You guys crack me up. I feel you though. The mod bug is like a disease. I'd have a lot more money in my bank if it were for this expensive hobby. I really wish the other kits, like JWT, is carb certified.

JWT kit out of the box is badass. Run on the wastegates and you're fine. Want a little more oomph, add test pipes, want a little more oomph do little things here and there.

But if you're of a addictive nature might be best to not go with something with so much potential.

I'll tell you this much I used to want more and more. But came to realize, you have to respect the power or you're not going to be happy with anything.

The HKS kit looks good though. I'll put money the GTM set up would be 10-12k installed, upgrading the fuel system changing to the FCON Vpro and whatever stuff they are adding at the GTM rate will astound you.

Happy my set up is running well. Knock on wood.

kinda the same thing with the jwtt though, a really proper install with fuel upgrades & return system & a good management system would put it well up in that range too I think really...

yes, but you can do a basic shortblock and do the GT28 turbo upgrade from the start.

For 12-14psi of GT28 boost. The Walbro 255 is fine. The FMU on a relay and a dedicated 10gaguge wire work very well.

12k HKS set up with good parts but at a max with power and nearing stockblock limits
15k JWT TT set up with decent internals and more power potential

HKS set up is not tunable by anyone but a HKS dealer. UTEC on a JWT is absolutely fine and tunable by whomever you choose. JWT GT25 kit 5k, install it yourself have 400 hp.

Upside and downside to all things. I guess choose your battles but there are a lot of options out there now vs the early VQ days.

Wow, So much discussion here. The only thing I can attest to since I have the HKS GT Supercharger kit on my FX (not to be confused with the late model Rotex S/C kit they used to sell) is that for the money the HKS kit is quite, Carb legal, compact in size and as realiable as heck. I had heard of many horror stories with the Stillen kit and the main belt snapping and all the noise it creates when it is working properly. Dont get me wrong, If you own the Stillen kit already congrats. For the money, sure the HKS kit is more expensive but I figure, you get what you pay for and did not want to pay for it again later. I run conservative with all settings stock from HKS. I am aware the kit has alot more potential. They have installed the kit on a G35 coupe, and two 350z's. One of the 350z's is tuned for street use (along with the G35) with a conservative 350 or so HP. The other is the race version of the same kit I have with different boost levels, fuel mapping and better then stock internals. That car runs around 500 hp safely. Some of you may have seen these cars as they were used for the press release last August HKS did for this S/C kit along side the newly redesigned suspension systems they released. Please feel free to contact me with ????. I have a pretty good relationship with the folks at HKS and will get any questions answered as best I can.

The HKS Carb Legal one is 50hp gain to the ground I believe. But like Dr said its got plenty potential -------------

The heart of the HKS supercharger kit is a Rotrex centrifugal supercharger unit. Longtime Turbo readers will realize we debuted this technology to the world eight years ago. It was an Emerging Technology piece in our December 1996 issue. We later featured a few cars, mainly European cars from EIP Tuning, sporting Rotrex induction.
The Rotrex unit is a belt-driven centrifugal supercharger that utilizes fixed-ratio planetary rollers to increase the efficiency and reliability of the system. The two biggest advantages of the Rotrex design are its compact size and the fact that turbo components are used on the compressor side. This allows HKS to tap into its vast data pool of wheel trim and housing combinations to tailor each supercharger application to the engine/vehicle in question.

Durability was addressed in overkill fashion as the Rotrex unit incorporates an enclosed lubricating and cooling system with a front-mount oil cooler. To further increase the efficiency, reliability and performance of the supercharger kit, HKS employs a front-mount intercooler that was R&D'd on the more-than-deserving Nissan 350Z.
For fuel delivery, a piggy-back engine management unit with a direct plug-in harness controls two additional 525cc injectors plumbed directly into the intake piping. To maintain proper fuel pressure, a high-flow in-tank fuel pump is included in the kit. Since the Rotrex unit sits where the stock air box normally would be, a Super Mega Flow intake is now in charge of gulping air before being compressed by the supercharger.

There would be no use talking about the HKS supercharger kit if we didn't show you what it is capable of. On the Dynojet, our stock Z tester, owned by BRS Autodesign, checked in with 237.4 hp and 232.8 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. With boost set at 7 psi, the HKS Rotrex-enhanced 350Z peaked out at 325.4 hp and 296.5 lb-ft of torque. That's an increase of 88 hp and 63.7 lb-ft of torque to the wheels! Power is realized throughout the rpm range, peaking out at 6500 rpm. Currently, the HKS Rotrex supercharger kit is pending CARB approval so it should be 50-state legal by the time you read this.
Serious situations call for serious measures. If you want to hang with the big boys you have to pay the price. Even with the extra you would have to fork out for the supercharger kit you can still laugh your way to the bank compared to the price tag of an M3. The HKS R&D department is working to morph the Z kit to fit the G35 Coupe and Infiniti FX35 SUV. We foresee them busting serious ass and coming out with new applications soon so keep your eyes peeled.

It's an expensive kit no doubt, but the quality you get is excellent. There has been a few Z's & G's on the my350z forum that have already done the kit. Most of which opted for the additional hp that can be tuned by the installer. The carb legal thing is a must, so for me it's either Stillen or HKS. Based on the amount of hp that can be squeezed out from these 2 kits....I'll take HKS.

The HKS looks to have decent potential. Keep in mind the Vortech is carb as well for the G and Z on the standard pulley just like the Stillen and HKS (HKS still not official last I read)

I know there's a FXers in TX doing the Vortech soon.

Wow! Im all for the stillen warranty upgrade. Stage 2, but this HKS SC is sounding really nice right now. I dont wanna run turbo tho, to much of a hassle, nothing like reliable power without the sacrifice of a temperamental tc.

In case anyone is thinking about getting this kit. HKS just lowered their price by $2,000. It is now listed for $4,500.
